Died in his sleep, which is how I want to go, eventually.

Damn. They were still rockin’. Glad I caught a concert 5 or 6 years ago. What a time to live!

We bought last minute tickets for their Y2K eve show from a scalper....way under face value for decent first row lower prom seats. Lots of people were panicked about Y2K being the end of the world, so there were plenty of empty seats for a show that otherwise would absolutely have been a sellout.

Also, there was a persistent legend that very early on, ZZ Top played a homecoming dance at my high school.

They are supposed to perform here Friday.:sadangel:

Dan Dlabay 07-28-2021 2:48pm

Sorry to hear this. I have seen ZZ Top 5 times through the years. May he rest in peace and be blessed by God.:sadangel:

Only saw them live once. Playing a stage set up on Bridgeport Highschool football field a few years after I got out of the military. Early 1980's and they were already beyond famous. I was living in Saginaw and hitchhiked down to Bridgeport to see them.

Guitar was mounted on some kind of swivel attached to the belt and it caught me off guard when that was spun in a circle. WTF?! Asked others if they saw it too in order to be sure I didn't imagine it. That's all I remember other than trying to avoid being trampled by the cops on their horses (State Police post across the road from the school). Good times.

Minus the Bass player.

Torqaholic 07-28-2021 3:23pm

My oldest says he watched them play less than 2 weeks ago in Mt. Pleasant... I'll be lucky if I can still walk at that age.

Dusty was out for some time over a hip issue. Their long term guitar tech was to fill in any dates he missed and has already been announced as the player for the rest of the tour. Seems like it was approved by all the members of the band.

You know, Tom Petty died over a hip issue, Prince got jacked up and died on painkillers over a hip issue. Hips freaking SUCK.

Sorry to hear, La Grange, my favorite ZZ tune.

BayouCountry 07-28-2021 4:05pm

A guy I met in the USAF introduced me to ZZ top. Kevin was a beer drinker hell raiser from Boston.
