My mom is taking cover in her basement. Tornado sirens are going off now. She’s listening to the radio and her area has been told to take cover immediately

Oh my goodness. Glad she has a basement. How often does Michigan have tornadoes?

A lot... House i was raised in had barn removed by tornado. We watched them a few times across the highways and fields. My inlaws were about 100 yards from 3 or 4 people killed by large one couple years ago(northwest ohio).
Xenia Ohio tornado(couple hrs south of that area) one of the worst ever.
Tornado drills were extremely important and we had cots in basement.

Severe thunderstorm warning was all I saw. Didn't even close the patio door. Cooled down nicely after that.

@LisaJohn - We get a handful of tornadoes every year. They're not very destructive where I'm at. Might take out a barn, some telephone poles, or a patch of trees. Can be much worse in the lower half of the lower peninsula but they're not frequent. The Flint-Beecher F5 of 1953 is the tenth deadliest in the United States.

Ann Arbor is on the southern edge right now, just got home as it was hitting, could hardly see with the wipers on high on the highway. It’s been a crazy weather late spring early summer so far

Dexter MI just west of me was hit in 2012 by an EF3, biggest in recent times in this area. Two of my coworkers lost homes to that one. I was leaving work just as it hit, literally was in the parking structure, and couldn’t get back to the office. I stayed in my truck on the lower level of the structure, which fortunately is below grade on two sides.

They just interrupted the Tigers game with a flash flood warning in Wayne County. The freeways will probably be flooded again.

My mon is fine. Her neighbor’s yard is flooded but she’s on slightly higher ground. The water has started to recede.

My dad (parents are divorced) has lost power in White lake. Hopefully, it won’t be for long.

Glad they are both ok.
