Carribean Vacation Suggestions - Please

Mrs. WKMCD and I want to go visit some warm in January. I'm looking for suggestions in the Carribean or Gulf area. Share with me your suggestions/recommendations please.

I have never been on a cruise or anywhere like that other than Hawaii. My parents, this past year, went to Puerto Rico and Bermuda. They absolutely loved Puerto Rico. They really enjoyed touring the rain forest.

My wife and I have visited St Martin on three (3) occasions and would go every year if we could!

Is there anything you'd like to do while there, other than lounge on a beach?
(scuba, fishing, historical sites, golf, etc).

I've only been to the Bahamas and Jamaica...But my folks have been on pretty much every island in the carribean, other than Aruba I think.
They say of all of them, the one place they'd love to revisit again is Barbados. They really liked that little island and the atmosphere. And probably after that, the Dominican Republic.

It's hard to go wrong in any of the resort cities on any island.
But if you have any specific plans in mind..some may be better suited than others.

We're leaning towards a cruise where we stop a few places. Haven't done one before so we're doing some research. Royal Carribean looks pretty good and we'll definitely do the nicest suites. They have a western Carribean cruise that looks good.

I've had a very good bisiness year so we want to do something special.

Only been to the Bahamas, but my buddy has a house in Aruba and raves about it. Everyone I talk to loves Aruba, so there has to be something to it.
Can I stow away in your carry on Kev? :D

I was in Bermuda last December. Very nice place and GREAT seafood. It was a quiet when I was there, even the locals said it was quiet than usual.

I was in Bahamas this past May. The rest of Bahamas is nice once you get away from Nassau. A few years ago the girlfriend and I were going to do a vacation at Tiamo on South Andros Island, but we never got around to booking rooms and ended up going to Costa Rica instead.

Costa Rica: San Jose, Costa Rica - Apr. 07 pictures from costa rica photos on webshots
By far the best vacation I've been on. Granted this isn't the Carribean and we were on the Pacific side; the place is freaking awesome. They do have a cruise that docs in Limon (Eastcoast Costa Rica). The girlfriend went to Limon a couple years ago and said it was pretty nice. Not as lively as the Pacific side, but very relaxing.

Dominican Republic:
I haven't been to Santo Domingo since 2001 and I enjoyed myself. There are some nice hotels right on the water and some cool city tours. I went to Punta Cana in 2007. When I was there they were putting up condos pretty quick. There is a handful of all-inclusive hotels that cater to tourist.

I've heard good things about Aruba, St. Nevis and the rest of the small island. Can't really go wrong with any of them. Even Jamaica isn't bad, as long as you stay on the westcoast (Montego Bay, Negril or Ocho Rios in the north central).

Barbados is an excellent island. The resort area is very nice with white sand beaches. Nassau Bahamas is not too bad, lots of stuff to do.
Puerto Rico is great with the rain forest and stuff to see in Old San Juan.
Out of all the islands I've been through during my years in the Navy I'd pick Barbados to go back to.

Thanks everyone. Lot's a good info here. Keep 'em coming.

The 2 feet of snow on the ground is really making me think "warm".

It would make me think "heaven on earth". Snow here in Little Rock is about as rare as a Puerto Ricon virgin.

My wife and I have done a couple of 7 day Royal Caribbean cruises in the Caribbean as well and you won't be disappointed. Make sure you do one of the snorkeling excursions if you can....you won't be disappointed!

This sounds like the direction we're going. We're very far from puritanical but we don't drink and don't enjoy gambling so I know that takes some of the activities away.

That's ok....if you like warm blue skies, crystal clear blue water, little teenie bikinis, and white sandy beaches...you'll love it down there. The casino gives you something to do on the boat at night but there are lots of shows and other activities going on too!

Damn....wish I was going! :yesnod:
