NYPD to allow...

officers to wear turbans while on-duty.

FFS...

OddBall 12-29-2016 4:48pm

Transgender cops will soon be wearing dresses. Bet on it.

Aerovette 12-29-2016 4:54pm

When you modify it, it is no longer a uniform.

Stupid idea.

Sikh's have been fighting Islam for centuries.

Sikhism: What contributions have Sikhs made as Soldiers and Warriors?

I am glad to see them on our side.

snide 12-29-2016 5:08pm

RCMP has allowed this for at least 10 years now.

I don't see it has having anything to do with religion. It is a UNIFORM. If you cannot wear the UNIFORM, do not join the group that has to wear the uniform. Very simple.

On this point, :iagree:

Could be worse... could be a requirement.

:iagree:

The name implies, uniform. All members wear the same UNIFORM.
On duty your uniform reflects the authourity you're under. Any deviation implies a break in that authourity.
You're not on duty under the authourity of your religion!

Ya, we're got turbans in the police and military here, and I disagree with it.

It sets a bad precedent. And doing so....where does it stop. The Sikhs also want to carry their ceremonial daggers on trains and planes and to school, not just the police Sikhs, but the kids too.
....should women in the police be able to wear hahibs that cover the face? :toetap::nonod:

Not just no, but Hell no! Political correctness should be subject to common sense the same way as other rules are.

They should be taught. Then paid to practice regularly, like once a month. And the department should provide the range and rounds for any officer who wants to practice on their own time. Just like the armed forces do.

Sounds good but it comes down to budgets and most communities can't afford it.

Also, most Police never fire their weapon in their Police career. It's a rare occurrence to do so.

In the military (US Army and non combat MOS, which is the bulk of the Army) got to shoot a few rounds once yearly with our assigned weapon.

DAB 12-30-2016 10:42am

i normally shoot 2 matches a month, and additionally try to get in one or two practice sessions each month. i'll shoot an average of 100 rounds per match, and 300-400 rounds per practice session.

Well that's great, but do you shoot while wearing a turban?
