My hands are never bloody but my gloves can be from time to time. I don't touch anything or anyone without gloves at work.

VatorMan 08-20-2012 8:10pm

I'd love a showpiece (Damascus) to hang on the wall. I'll PM you later.

No consignment, they'll be on my table at the knifemakers guild show next month.
Between forging the steel, designing the knife and making it..........I quit counting hours long, long ago, but for those three knives.......the hours would probably start at well over 100+
I'll try and get some pics of my mosaic damascus.......IMHO, Its awesome.

Have you ever done a coat of arms on a handle ? I have both my wife's family and mine. I could see a COA on each handle and a a symmetrical Damascus steel blade.

Grey Ghost 08-20-2012 8:26pm

They are all beautiful, elegant, works of art. The proportions and lines are just so well done. You are indeed a craftsman, a dying breed in this world of mass produced BS.

Never done a COA on a knife. For something like that, I would suggest a scrimshaw artist to do it on [legal]ivory handles.

Never done any swords, and only a few "fighters." I'm of the belief that unless you are trained correctly, a "fighting knife" will get you killed. Best fighter I got has a 12 rd. magazine. :D

It would have to be a helluva lotta steaks and antlers.

I learned that through the efforts of several 'smiths and knifemakers. The person that taught me the most about forging damascus steel is Ryan Johnson, IMHO, one of the best in this part of the country. He runs the metal shop at UT in Chattanooga and is part owner of RMJ tactical.

Bucwheat 08-21-2012 7:44am

Do you make your own Damascus Steel ? Is the Guild Show in Pasadena Ca. by any chance ?:)

simpleman68 08-21-2012 8:27am

Gonna treat myself to one of those someday.

I do all of my damascus, here's a pic of my ugly mug at the forge.

The Knife makers Guild show is in Louisville KY September 14, 15, 16.

I don't think The Blade Show west is done anymore, last I heard it was at the Ontario Convention center in California.

jaxgator 08-21-2012 9:25am

True craftsmanship. Absolutely beautiful work! :seasix:
