NASCAR bans Confederate flag, to allow protests
So NASCAR announced today that the Confederate flag is banned at all tracks and properties. Ya know, I get the Confederate flag thing. But at the same time this article says it wants everyone to be comfortable and for the sport to feel inclusive. They just lost a lot of their fan base with this one as many will no longer feel included. And they will lose more than they gain.
The big thing here is now "peaceful protests" will be allowed during the national anthem. As the last sport giving a blessing to the competitors, saying a prayer, and singing the anthem before before getting started I am very disappointed in this decision. I tune in to watch a race, not a political stance. The last two races were so full of political commentary I turned down the sound several times. I have missed very few races since the early nineties but I guess I am done. I will now be turning the channel. "The Confederate flag is no longer welcome at any NASCAR event. NASCAR confirmed the ban, which several drivers have recently spoken out in favor of, in a statement on Wednesday, three days after NASCAR President Steve Phelps addressed the competitors and fans to say that the sport and country “must do better” with race relations. NASCAR’s statement reads: “The presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry. Bringing people together around a love for racing and our industry. Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the Confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR Events and properties.” The death of George Floyd, a black man in Minnesota, at the hands of a white police officer, has sparked days of national protests and conversation. In the last week and a half, NASCAR and its drivers have been using their social media platforms more and more to share their thoughts on the subject, while hoping to educate themselves about the experiences of the black community in the process. On Sunday, Phelps shared his message as the drivers sat in their cars on the front stretch at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR also held a 30 second moment of silence to acknowledge recent events, and drivers participated in a video expressing a commitment to learning and becoming a part of change. Additionally, NASCAR has also eliminated a guideline that for competitors relating to conduct for the National Anthem. Handed out before each driver/crew chief meeting the directive stated, “when the flag is displayed… all persons should face and stand at attention with their right hand over their heart… persons should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart… when the flag is not displayed… all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.” That guideline was eliminated before the Atlanta race, giving way for competitors to protest peacefully during opening ceremonies should they choose. On Sunday, NASCAR official Kirk Price, a U.S. Army veteran, knelt and raised his fist during the innovation." https://racer.com/2020/06/10/nascar-...EebO68J2fMX8WM |
Virtue signaling is the new cultural thing to do.
So let's all ban statues, defund the police, and most importantly, have everyone bow, aka bend the knee, to the new overlords. I don't think I'm alone when I say fukk those who ask me to bow. You might as well just fukking go ahead and shoot me in the head because I'm not even going to attempt to bow to anyone for anything. More, how much further the divide? You only have to see who gains from all this to see what's the goal. |

I'm predicting this will end badly.....:seasix:

You tune into sports to get away from politics.
They are screwing up their purpose. |
I'm not really a Nascar fan, but the only way this crap gets stopped anywhere, is a mass boycott by the fans. All those people who bring their RV's out and camp out, treating races as mini vacations? They need to just stay away. All the people buying tickets in the stands? Don't buy the tickets this year.
If you happen to be a "Nielson family," add Nascar to the shit you won't watch. I would bet that MOST Nascar fans aren't down with all this leftist virtue signalling. Their fan base are NOT leftists. They aren't skinny jean wearing, latte drinking, woke liberals. They aren't Burn Loot Murder supporters. They don't hate America and Christianity. In short, they aren't the people Nascar has just plead fealty to. |
Glad I don't watch that shit anyways.

NASCAR has been trying hard for years to piss off their core fans, which has been wildly successful judging by the huge decline in attendance and TV ratings. This ain't gonna help that at all.

so.....you cannot fly/display a Confederate flag to express your views, but you can show/wave/wear a "black lives matter" item to express your views.....
you watch, they will go after the nat'l anthem next, saying it's "racist". :slap: |
Eventually this will end in a ruling from supreme court and first amendment rights, but I bet they back off mandating it is allowed on private property. Hell fly a Trump flag and you're considered a racist bastard....
I don't have a problem if someone flies a "pride" flag but why do they have issues with a confederate flag or any other flag for that matter. Oh i know they're libtards that's why... Conform to them or else. |
We need a flag for old heterosexual white guy pride. Or is that something that's not allowed now too?
|
A part time truck series driver says he's out.. Pandering to one side and fukin others over.
Good for him... |
You are all so inconsiderate. Think of the lives that removing that flag will save? Do it for the children. If it saves just one life. It's for the common good. When the water rises, all the boats rise. A stitch in time. Little miss Muffet. KMA GFO STFU
Ahhhhhh, I feel so much better now. |
I have been a Nascar fan since I was 10 or so. What started as a speed contest between moonshiners trying to prove they had the fastest car in the county has devolved into a made for TV scripted "reality" show. I will no longer even bother to see if there's a local Nascar sponsored dirt race on the tube. So long, and thanks for the fish!

I don't care what flag you fly as long as it is never above this !

Nascar has been dead a few years already. I grew up loving it, but they have managed to take away any interest that I did have many years ago. They pandered to a fly by night fan base, and look where that got them. Empty stands...This bullshit is probably the last nail in the coffin.:yesnod:
