Sleep

It seems I can only squeak out 3-4 hrs of sleep each night these days. I hate this. It’s 4 am and I’ve been up two hours already. I’m told it’s not that unusual with us seniors (that’s the first time I’ve used that term to describe myself).

carlton_fritz 06-09-2019 3:40am

I'm up because I work every day. Kinda feel like a farmer.

Olustee bus 06-09-2019 5:07am

I have bad sleeping habits. I am ready for bed around 8 or 9. I sleep until 2 or 3 and up on the web until 5 or 6 then back to bed until 8 -9.

Norm 06-09-2019 6:04am

I try to keep a midnight to 6-7 sleep pattern, tough, old man issues, 1-2 pee wake ups, achy, getting old sucks...........

mrvette 06-09-2019 8:03am

Ditto to all of the above.....830-930 bedtime, 2-3am wake up, back/spine hurts, computer till 4-5am or so, snooze till 730 ish.......since Ernie died, Chuck and I set out front and BS over the paper still delivered to Ernie's house....

2-3 mugs, and set for the day

That sucks. Have you tried Tylenol PM, valerian root or melatonin?

Depends on why you are not sleeping as to what might help. (anxiety, pain, breathing problems, having to pee, did I say PAIN etc.)

In bed by 10:30 usually, up at 6am daily (dogs have to be fed) When I am up I am up, no back to bed, even on days I don't work.

Black94lt1 06-09-2019 11:47am

3-4 seems to be about all I get too, if I go to sleep around 10 I’m up around 2, so I usually stay up until 12 or 1 so I at least sleep until 4 or 5

To bed around 9pm up at 4am see my wife off to work at 6am and start working in the yard at 6am.:cert:

VITE1 06-09-2019 1:34pm

I get to bed about 10pm. Wake up a few times at night and just toss and turn. Wake up around 7am.

I found drinking Cranberry juice helps with the peeing at night.

SQUIRMIN VERMIN 84 06-09-2019 2:37pm

I've been drinking cranberry juice cut 50/50 with water for over 15 years
and yes, it helps the pee problem. An excellent source of vitamin C too.
I get it from Costco. My urologist sez my kidneys are in fantastic shape.:)

My sleep is all over the place. Sometimes I can't sleep at all, but here recently, it seems to be all I want to do. I did change BP medicine because the manufacturers literally ran out of Benicar, so I wonder if that might be the cause. I could literally sleep most of the weekend away. I tend to wake up at the butt crack of dawn on the weekends anyway, but by 9 or 10 a.m. I want to go back to bed. If I do lay down, I'm done literally for hours. I'm certainly not depressed or anything, just out of steam.:sadangel:

JRD77VET 06-09-2019 7:33pm

I've been getting to bed 10:30 to 11 and usually sleep until the alarm goes off at 4:30. Weekends I still wake up then but can "sleep in" to 6:30 or 7

If I can, a 1/2 hour nap after work helps out.

Chuck A 06-09-2019 8:22pm

mostly 4 hours max sleep for me, then its just toss and turn all freaking night
very upset, indeed

Wathen1955 06-09-2019 10:42pm

I have a weird schedule. I work 1 day a week by going to the company, and the other 4 days I work from home. The commute on the train is 2.5 hours one way!

On Mondays when I go into work, I do to bed at 9:00am and try to go to sleep. It can take 30 minutes or so to finally sleep. I then get up a 3:30am. Take a shower, get dressed, and have breakfast. I'm out the door at 4:15am and drive 8 miles to the train station. The train arrives at 4:45am. Get on the train and work by answering emails etc.

At 3:24 I get back on the train and had home. I arrive at 6:15pm. I stay up until 10 or 11pm. My alarm goes off at 6:30am so I can work from home.

On the weekends, I'm up till 11pm and getup at 7am the next day. I may wake up and go pee probably 1 or twice in a weeks time.

Good news is I'm retiring in February 2020.

Neighbor works days one week and nights next.....rinse and repeat....imagine his sleep problems.

This kind of describes me. During the week, my wakeup varies between 4AM and 5:30AM - My schedule fluctuates a little bit. This week will be a 4AM wakeup. I do work a spilt shift though. Mornings and Afternoons, it's hard on me. I'll catch a cat nap in the mid-day for about an hour.

I'm usually in bed by 10PM, lay around a read for about a half hour. Then get up. I usually wake up at least once in the middle of the night to pee.

You have to be tough to get old.

MrPeabody 06-10-2019 8:19am

Since retirement my goal is to get drunk enough to not remember when I got to bed.:shots:

Just for nostalgia purposes, I do not drink on Sundays and get up at 4:00 on Mondays for my volunteer job at the hospital, where I will usually work until around noon. Although the hours will not be so early, I am considering adding one or two more days a week to my volunteer job in some other departments.

I don't know how you do this.

my entire adult life, I average 7.5 hours sleep/night (11:30pm to 7am) during the work week, and 9.5 hours sleep/night (I'm serious; midnight to 9:30am) on weekends.

I can't imagine trying to get-by with less.
