BREAKING: AL FRANKEN WILL RESIGN

On now.

Milton Fox 12-07-2017 11:59am

Did he already or is he waiting until tomorrow or next week, end of term....I understand today is some sort of election deadline for next years process and waiting until tomorrow allows some postions to be filled in/appointed - instead of the people voting for a new person. :waiting:

FasterTraffic 12-07-2017 11:59am

Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

OddBall 12-07-2017 12:00pm

Al falls on his sword for the cause...so that doggone it, people will just like him.

That's just it. He denied most of the allegations, and he STILL resigned. Wuss.

He should have emulated Trump. Deny everything but the picture, and attack, fight back. I would respect that more than what he did, which was deny and then resign anyway.

I have to agree. I'm surprised that the Democrats convinced him to do it. They offered him up as the sacrificial lamb so that they can now claim the moral high-ground. They will hammer the shit out of Roy Moore now since he's likely to win.

Democrats claiming moral high ground; what a joke. Hell, any politician claiming moral high ground is laughable.

Based on these whistle blowers actions, should n't he wait 10 years and then step down? :D

bsmith 12-07-2017 12:36pm

I'm sure he'll get a heroes welcome back at Saturday Night Live.

I'm sure he'll take his taxpayer funded pension, and the residuals from SNL and retire to wherever he feels like going. He's not going to be destitute by any stretch.

Kerrmudgeon 12-07-2017 1:02pm

I liked his comment on the irony of the perv in the oval office and the old perv Texan .

Hypocritical? :yesnod:

too bad, he was a real people first kind of guy. :(

Olustee bus 12-07-2017 1:31pm

He said in the next few weeks. Once Moore is elected, Franken will not mention resigning again.

Especially the ones that he groped. He groped her first, and then her, and then that other one, but not the ugly one. No one gropes the ugly one. Damned hypocrite, that AL. Ugly gals need groping too

That depends on what you consider as rich. There are about 700 retired Senators now, collecting an average of about $70,000 per year, less than half their full salary of $174,000. They do of course get full medical benefits for life. Franken made about $50,000 in SNL residuals in 2012 (last year I could find a figure for) and an unknown amount of book royalties. His books were popular when first released, but they're old now.

So he collects at least $120,000 a year after his resignation....but he's 66-years-old, and the residuals and royalties will eventually end. He will get COLA increases (tied to Social Security amounts) in his retirement pay.

Not destitute by any means, but he better have an ample self-funded retirement account.
