A new experience coming up! - Root Canal..... :(
next week. ugh.
2400 bucks of fun. yippee.... |
Congratulations on having a tooth worth as much as a C4.:seasix:
|
I've never had one, but from what I have heard they aren't that big of a deal. :yesnod:Good Luck!
|
I had one done many years ago that was REAL uncomfortable. I got so upset & angry that the dentist called for backup from another room.
I've had a few since then, & they were about as painless as I could imagine. So I guess techniques have improved. Good luck. :cert: |
Dentist told me I needed a root canal. Sent me to a specialist. It was to be done on a top front tooth that got broken off years earlier in a motorcycle accident. He was working at it for awhile and then sorta started getting nervous and noticeably so. A tungsten carbide bit had broken off inside my upper jaw. And he couldn't get it out.
Scheduled me to come back a week later, I guess so he could get some ideas on what to try. Worked me over really good, still couldn't get it out so he went with option Z, which was leave it there. So I have a small needle-thin tungsten carbide drill bit in my skull. The good part was he didn't charge me for the root canal, which was otherwise successful apparently. |
Just broke a tooth Sunday. Fortunately no immediate pain since the soonest my dentist can see me is Wednesday morning. Get to find out what she is going to do and how much it’s gonna cost

I faced a similar choice awhile back. Root canal; $1500.00. Extraction at a local oral surgeon's suite; $400.00. I am missing one tooth now.

A C4 or root canal? |
It doesn’t hurt. I’ve had too many to count. It feels friggin weird. But the only pain is the Novocain needle. After that you could build a bookcase in there. Take some Advil or Tramadol before you go and smoke a big doob.
The doob won’t help with the pain, it just gives you an excuse. |
the pain sucks. one week until my appointment....

that's one way to lose weight. chewing anything makes the pain worse, even if i try to only chew on the other side, so i'm getting by on non-chewable foods (yogurt, soup, other soft things), and not snacking between meals on crunchy things, and i'm down about 3 lb so far.

I lost 30 lbs thanks to my dental troubles last year. Well, 15, and then with the head start I figured what the hell might as well diet.
I now have to take Gabapentin basically for life. I tried going off it about a month ago when my prescription ran out thinking I was OK. Nope. 3 days off it and my face was lit up. And it takes time for it to work, so I had 2 weeks of hell again after resuming it before I started feeling normal. I have some weird anatomy quirk where the major nerve canal that runs under your bottom back teeth is higher up than normal in me, so the roots of the back tooth that I was having trouble with last year actually extended into it. So root canal job was perfect, but probably damaged the nerve. Eventually just had to have the tooth pulled by an oral surgeon. The root canal itself was no big deal, just a long time in the chair. Also pricey, getting a tooth extracted by a surgeon was half the price of an Endo root canal. |

I’m sitting in the chair getting one done as we speak. The hurt was when they stuck a spike in my mouth and injected about a jar full of anesthetic.

6 more days of this BS. this sucks. i hurt, Tylenol barely does anything, i'm tired, and i can only eat soft food.
