Calif. Store Owner Feels Blessed After Selling $447M Powerball Ticket « CBS Los Angeles

The owner of a Southern California liquor store says he feels blessed for selling the winning Powerball ticket and does not know which of his customers won the jackpot.

Owner Matthew Alberre said Sunday he has not received much information about the bonus the store will receive and doesn’t know what his family will do with the $1 million that officials have said is set aside for the store that sold the winning ticket.

Alberre says he and his father own the store in Sun City, originally developed as a retirement community and now part of the city of Menifee.

This year started out tough for Alberre and his father because the father is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis lung disease. He says they were grateful to receive news that their store sold the ticket.

Alberre says the store just off a highway caters to retirees who live in Sun City and motorists who are passing through.

Menifee has about 89,000 residents.

Yeah, if I won that kind of money, I doubt I would even call in. Oh well, gotta play to win, and I haven't bought a lottery ticket in a minute. I would guess my total expenditure on the lottery in the last year around 30 bux. Play it every now and again for a goof.

Yea, I know what ya mean. The wife and I play once in a while. There's even a little bodega thingy just around the corner that sells 'em. Typical Indian, dot not feather, dude runs the place and is always there.

I suppose I'd have fun...go into work and every time something screws up, admit I was the one that did it. :Jeff '79:

DAB 06-12-2017 9:51am

ah yes....the regular "if i won, i'd....."

I'd get my FA and accountant on the line and first figure out the way to stay anonymous and how to keep as much away fro the tax man as I could.

Then I'd set up funds for myself and wife along with my kids and grand kids.

Once I had a financial plan set up then I would decide on what i'd buy.

Since it'll probably take a while, I'd order one of these, then plan out the rest.

i might get a new truck - Red. :smash: with brush guard on front. :yesnod:

so lump sum is 279M. after tax would be about 1/2 that, say 140M. 4% of that annually would yield $5,600,000 in annual income, or about $466,000/month, or about $15,500/day. you literally could not spend it fast enough

I'd split it three ways with my son and the wife, and tell them to have at it. My needs are much simpler.
