Sequester Cuts: Navy to Ground Blue Angels

As much as I've enjoyed their shows over the years, money is tight all over and while $20 million might seem like not much, it all adds up eventually.

C5SilverBullet 02-07-2013 2:02pm

So do they lose money at shows? Do you not have to pay for them to do a show?

I don't know. They are primarily a recruiting and PR tool.

Budget

November 2011: The Pentagon spends $37 million for the Blue Angels as a fraction of the Pentagon's $645 billion annual budget, but cuts in defense spending might require eliminating the aerobatic team.[47]

The primary purpose of Blue Angels is a recruiting tool. If I recall correctly form my days as a Navy Pilot, their budget for operations is contained in the Naval Air Training Command budget.

All so we can provide degenerates with free phones and tattoo removal.

How about we stop funding bullshit “global warming” research, and give that money to the military?

ZipZap 02-07-2013 2:23pm

Never paid to go to any airshow on a base:seasix:

I've been going since the late 1970's. Love the Angels and Thunderbirds. Recruiting tool, pride, public relations, etc...I don't mind them spending MY money on them. They should cut Moochelle's AF trips and vacations.

Bitch has to have her vacations 'ya know.

Expensive massages, top shelf vodka and five-star hotels: First Lady accused of spending $10m in public money on her vacations

The Obamas' summer break on Martha's Vineyard has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple arrived four hours apart on separate government jets.

But according to new reports, this is the least of their extravagances.
White House sources today claimed that the First Lady has spent $10million of U.S. taxpayers' money on vacations alone in the past year.

We have to treat them better, they're better people.

Yup.

Pretty f*cking pathetic that we will cut a 67 year Navy tradition and wouldn't dream of cutting even a dime from the lazy piles of shit who do nothing but cash a government check.

Thanks liberals! :hurray:

Until we demonstrate fiscal responsibility by running continued, sustainable surpluses year after year, then we need to cut off the lazy piles AND the Angels. Once we start whittling down the debt, then I'm good with resurrecting the Angels. Right now, paying for the Angels is like being *****r rich. I can't buy a hamburger without a .gov handout but I have $ 3,500 worth of wheels and tires on my 22 year old Buick.

Full disclosure: I've seen the Blue Angels several times at the annual airshow at Ellington Field here in Houston. Those guys are awesome and put on a Hell of a show.

Yea, great in theory... the problem is that when it comes down to it, only 1 side actually loses while the other is more than happy to redistribute anything that was saved either to feed their demented Robin Hood complexes or to buy some more votes. Usually both simultaneously.

$20 million for the Blue Angels...how much each are the F16s we are giving Egypt?

Craig 02-07-2013 10:05pm

Oh good...a Bill Morhon vid makes an appearance...I'm sure he's got something positive to contribute...no thanks. Watch it yourself, over and over.
