My company had a layoff Thursday

Thankfully I was spared. A few friends weren't though. I've been through this twice, it's no fun.

higgyburners 01-13-2024 11:45pm

who do you work for?

The_Dude 01-13-2024 11:46pm

Happened at my company last October.

MidLifeinMI 01-14-2024 12:05am

Glad you were spared. Layoffs seem pretty rare these days because of worker shortages, but not unheard of.

Moond0ggie 01-14-2024 12:12am

A layoff is often a great segue into a better job .....

Vandelay Industries 01-14-2024 12:15am

Bidenomics.

ZipZap 01-14-2024 12:19am

We had two.

The first, I was spared as a worker. The second I executed the layoffs as a boss. The second was much worse for me than the first.

Let’s be fair and factual, there were 2.9 million jobs lost during Trump’s time in the White House. Biden’s administration had gained 2.7 million jobs as of January 2024. We can argue the reasons but the numbers are the numbers and employers still can’t get enough employees.

This is where Bill inserts some news articles. :D

I have been forced to layoff hundreds in my career, mostly through acquisitions and consolidation of workforces. It’s no fun.

The layoff was caused by a miscalculation of future revenue and the hiring spree that happened based on those numbers. I was part of that hiring, but my patch is viewed as a high growth potential area and so I was spared. The economy certainly did not help, but there were other factors.

On a positive note, there's a solid chance I will have a reasonable quota and will smoke it. Time will tell.

Not gonna say what the company is as I am not trying to make a target of myself. I am very happy at this place, great culture, great co-workers.

How anyone can believe that Biden has been good for the economy is beyond my comprehension.

Anyone who thinks the pedophile administration has been good for the economy has to be as dumb as a post.

Just had a niece go through this at GEICO, major rounds of layoff but she's hanging in there. Daughter is going through the same thing at Citibank - entire layers of middle management departing in two layoff "waves".

Its a cycle, entities build up layers of supervision as they grow and then some new CEO rolls in, wants to "make a mark" and takes out a layer of management - then they find out the people left can only handle so many "direct" reports and project scope and so they add back a layer of mid-management. Its worse though when they hit the poor line workers; they usually are just making it in the first place.

And the cycle continues.

The "Bidenomics" drumbeat is subsiding, as the election cycle continues, the Dems are discovering they really don't have a lot to brag about.

America's credit rating downgraded for only the second time in history, massive deficits, unchecked spending and then Kamala says most American families are only a $400 unexpected expense away from poverty... So, where is the booming economy ? Oh yeah record stock market.

Any dolt with 1/2 a brain knows the market, in the long term, is a predictor of the future, 6-18 months ahead. The rise is prob anticipating a) the Fed lowering rates to make Biden look good this year, and, b) a hope that things will improve after a turnover election.

Then we find out the glowing latest job numbers were just flat out wrong.

Outlook for the market is good because only a fool would leave their portfolio in cash or government bonds. The dollar is near collapse.

I thought you wanted to be fair and factual. Let us know when you're going to start. :Jeff '79:
