Big storm underway here.

Maybe the biggest storm in a few years. We may get several inches of rain and winds up to 60 mph in the next few hours. It will me a miracle if we don't lose power tonight. Oh, well, we're as prepared and ready as we can be here at my house. The dogs are a little spooked, though.:shots:

Everyone is very confused. :funniest:

Hope you guys don’t get hit too badly tonight. :seeya:

I hope the storm doesn't cause a bunch of issues just because it's been so dry this season.

It's already causing some minor mudslides in some of the burn areas in the hills. We're on flat ground here, so we're okay.

I think your storm is going to give us many inches of snow this weekend.

By later this evening both highways 80 and 50 to Reno and Tahoe will probably be closed. At the 7,000 ft. summit they are predicting 7-8 feet of snow.

The mountain will be packed next week then. I do miss skiing around Tahoe.

Hopefully the rain coupled with the snow higher up will fill lake Oroville :yesnod:

Cybercowboy 01-16-2019 11:47pm

It will be like -2 degrees F here Saturday night, just sayin’. Weather or not we know it, we will endure.

I remember 80 alright, my son picked me up at midnight in Reno, so the drive over the Sierras was just a black wall on one side, never saw over the ledge, but on the way home, it was VERY un nerving to say the least.....look over that road side with no guard rails, and a ~3000' drop with nothing but stubborn trees growing outta the granite to stop us......:issues:

We are supposed to get another 1-2 inches of @#$@#R% rain between now and Saturday and then turn over to accumulating snow and Ice. Our yard is so saturated you cannot walk in it. Our dogs sink almost an inch in the grassy areas because of the water. I've never seen our yard so wet in the 15 years we've lived here. We haven't even been cold enough to at least freeze the ground and have a hard surface to walk on. UGH!!!!

If you've only seen the drive from Reno to Grass Valley, I can see why you would think that, but there is plenty of flat ground in California. My county is about 50% flat ground.

MrPeabody 01-17-2019 3:35pm

There were some power outages around the county, but fortunately not my house. A little flash flooding of streets in some low lying areas but mostly drained off by now. Raining off and on now.

It's starting to taper off down South, but it as been raining steady for 3 days. Lots of problems on the roads, especially canyons/passes with debris flow etc.

Otherwise, no problems here at Casa de Chinaski. As far as I know, Rancho Relaxo in the Mountains is fine too.
