Would You Buy A Used Hertz Z06?

Ahh.......No!

Buying an old rental car is often fraught with risk, but also a bargain. Then there’s the Hertz 100th Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

The rental car company ordered 100 of the 650 hp sports cars last year and will soon be offering them for resale at a price higher than you’d pay for a brand new one.

The company told Jalopnik that the yellow and black automatic transmission coupes will likely sell for $90,000 to $100,000 each, compared to a starting price of $82,990 for a brand new yellow one with a stick.

The cars all have less than 10,000 miles on their odometers, however, thanks to a 75-mile free limit imposed on the rentals with a $.75 per mile charge above that.

The premium is thanks to their rarity and expected future value. Hertz’s original “rent a racer,” the 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H sells for as much as $200,000 today.

Hertz says the cars will start showing up at its sales locations soon. And if you're wary of buying a beat-up rental car, there's one part that should definitely be fine. Hertz removed the chin spoilers off of the cars while they were in service so they could clear the tire spikes at the rental lot, but will replace them before the cars go on sale.

They're out of their ****ing minds.

10,000 miles at a quarter mile a time = actual wear an tear of 40,000 miles.

As to the rarity factor, I guess my '04 Le Mans edition vert ought to be worth big bucks right now, being rare and all.

Might consider it at a significant discount to market value.

Certainly not a premium.

Lots of low mileage garage queens out there for decent money. Like the '17 Z06 I bought with only 2,700 miles on it. It's like a brand new car.

I would not buy a high horsepower used Vette from anyone that I personally did not know extremely well.

I have no idea where Hertz gets the rareness in that bunch. Go to any Corvette show, there's always a few sitting around.

No way. You can buy a new one for less than that.:cert:

DAB 03-23-2019 2:40pm

i've got a budget of 1600.

I wouldn't buy one of these Hertz Z06s, but I would consider a ZHZ from 2008-9. :yesnod:

Nice cars, they're not cheap, still commanding hi 30's to low 40's.

Sounds like they are smoking some dope left over from mid 60’s they had stashed in the Stangs....:squirrel2:

DAB 03-23-2019 3:39pm

"it'll go up in value"

then why are you selling? just keep it stashed away and profit later?!

Rental car people, what the hell they know, it's a car, turn the key.....vroooom!

C5SilverBullet 03-23-2019 3:51pm

Nobody wants a ****ing rental car. Limited production doesn't mean it will be valuable.

And low mileage Corvettes, while they will be worth somewhat more than high mileage Corvettes, are not a rare commodity. Never have been.

86RAG 03-23-2019 4:16pm

While the price is crazy, I'm betting they sell every one of em. People do weird shit! :yesnod:

:iagree:

There are only 100 of them. Finding 100 dudes that missed out at Barrett Jackson or Mecum on some "rare" car and have a $100g's burning a hole in their pocket won't be hard.

:iagree:

We used to get rental cars while TDY, Temporary Duty. Some guys treated them well while others beat the hell out of 'em. That's the thing with buying a rental, you never know the history of the car.
