$10k for an 18yr old truck?

Today at work I had a guy come in my office and ask my girl who's truck was that in the drive. Hearing this I went out to the front to ask why he was asking, turns out he wanted to buy it. i told him no it's not for sale, he countered with "I'll give you $10k cash today" Nope not selling it.

I love my truck, 18yrs old and all, I'll retire it before I sell it. Lots of memories with that truck, getting stuck, towing boats, all the kids learned to drive with it, etc etc. It only has 166k miles

I know the 7.3 diesel motors are desirable but damn! I've been asked if I would sell it lot's of times but this Dude was going door to door to find me. Weird

It's a Pretty clean truck, should I have asked $20k? :D

Everything has a price. :yesnod:

Yeah but, It's a stump puller, is there something out on the current market as good?

Sea Six 06-27-2018 1:11am

Is it a '99?

If it is, or at least he thought it was, he probably wanted the engine because of the ELD mandate.

That 7.3 will out live every one of us on this forum. You made the right call.:seasix:

For those that don't know(like me) its a friggin ford truck somewhere between 1994 and 2003 diesel.

It's a 2000. Not sure what and how the ELD mandate affects this truck? Gotta link?

When I bought the truck new (it was fathers day that fell on my Bday that year) I bought it to tow my boat and haul the kids, diesel was cheap and no smog. Now I have no boat, kids have grown up, diesel is more than gas and I have to smog it... :banghead:

Yep :yesnod: I'm fully aware of how long these motors last. It's everything else around it that needs attention especially the way I abuse it :D

My son has an Excursion with that motor. He's put 150k+ miles on it and it's worth what he paid several years ago.

Pretty much.

Clean retail is ~$10k. Adding in the "I can't replace it" factor, if someone gave me ~$15k I'd take it and run like hell, especially if I didn't really need it anymore.

Of course I buy and sell motorcycles, cars, ATVs, UTVs, etc for a (2nd) living so all I see is dollars.

We have the 7.3 diesel in our International. :yesnod:

I get the same kinds of compliments on my 03 Suburban. Even the guy at the repair shop wants to buy it.

The V10 gas? I think that's the one where the speedometer and the gas needle race each other in opposite directions...

2006 GMC/Chevy diesels command top price. Last year before the cow piss mandate and with Allison tranny.

UniqueDoug 06-27-2018 6:59pm

High mileage diesels, did somebody ring?

Actually the coveted last year diesel was the LBZ series Duramax, which ran from mid 2006 to mid 2007, the mandates started with the 2007.5's.

:seasix: guy at work had one and wanted new truck price basically. I settled on gas based on tow miles.

That guy wasn't off on his offer. That last link was a rust bucket, as is my gasser '06 F250. My truck isn't worth $10k, that's for sure.
