Oliver is a socialist and delusional, but I like him. He'd be a fun guy to travel with if you like soda and lots of warm meals.

Not sure what consumer protection has to do with socialism?
Socialism is redistribution of wealth. Never advocated such thing.

Lars couldn't get through to you so I likely can't either. Your basic stance that the government needs to be protective and responsible for ignorant people so they make better choices---so they don't have to educate themselves--is the very basis of socialism. As soon as the government starts performing 'Daddy' roles (such as our welfare system, needle exchanges, free abortion, etc.) the population no longer has to act responsibly and soon learns that bad behavior is rewarded---as long as you support the government that is now supporting you.

I'm just celebrating that yet again, I placed ahead of @snide and @Sea Six in something!

Nice to know hard work pays off!

DJ_Critterus 03-28-2024 12:14pm

Do we really need a new thread to bash him? Did the other threads not do a good enough job?

Capitalism and Anarchy are 2 different things. In Anarchy, there are no protections for consumers. In Capitalism, there are.

This has been covered in the other thread. There are already truth in advertising laws. What you are advocating is protection from ignorance.

yes, there are those laws and all I'm suggesting is to refine them.

I, as a capitalist, am always mostly in favor of lesser consumer laws and rules.

We already have way too many, with too many laws you will always have much more regulation and enforcement for BS that should be common sense, or adult-required knowledge.

When you have way too many, you facilitate for MUCH BIGGER government, which is the cornerstone of socialism.

Reading the fine print "wastes his valuable time", so he wants the government to make companies change how they communicate to assist him in getting through his life more efficiently.

I would like exactly zero of my tax dollars being spent to save someone from doing their homework on one of the biggest purchases of their life. :yesnod:

The wording I would add is that advertised prices can only include discounts that everyone is eligible for. Conditional discounts should be listed separately and not be taken out of the purchase price. Furthermore, dealer add ons installed on the car also need to be included in the advertised price.
