Put on my plates today, have owned my 97' for 20 years and done lots of driving/racing from VA to KY, NC, SC :shots:
#467 off the assembly line

Oh wow. I guess I need to get an antique tag too. Had the 97 since 2009.
How do you find out what number off the assembly line?

I believe the VIN determines that.

Has to be 35 years to be an antique here. The state values them for tax purposes at $500, to save on your annual bill.

In my state, they treat antique auto's with respect, as long as you own it, no more renewal registration fees, no more inspections. :seasix:

I think Texas is $50.00 for 5 years.

I’ve got the vin. Which sequence of numbers (or letters)? Last 4 digits are 4554.

Yadkin 01-20-2023 8:18pm

The last 6 digits are the build sequence.

LisaJohn 01-20-2023 8:25pm

104554

Here is what renewal fee for the 69 Mach 1, standard plate renewal is;

Attachment 75024

Estimated value of ~$2,200
Reg Fee/ Taxes etc @$53

73 Eldorado has Estimated value of $7,500
Reg Fee/ Taxes etc @$89

Not worth getting antique plates as they require to inspect the vehicle, sign of damage disclosure and odometer statement along with other BS paperwork.

Also with Antique plates, driven only to and from car events and club meetings.

I like to drive my cars anywhere and anytime so I'll pass on the NC antique plates.

I was wrong, only 30 years.

Antique plates should be used for vehicles primarily used for exhibitions, club activities, parades and other public interest events...
. Language is very loose. "Should.... Primarily". I drive mine on the BRP, date nights, joy rides with friends, and sometimes just to go to Lowe's.

Also, if already titled and registered, no inspection: "Must be inspected and photographed by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles when being presented for first-time titling and registration"

My VIN is scribed in the wet fiberglass on the underside of the hood also, same as the car.....they had fitment issues on the first year id guess and they were hand fitted for a while....$50 and its a permanent plate like a trailer. No more inspections or registration :seasix:
In VA you have to wait till January of the next year after it turns 25 to get these plates

LillyNelson 02-07-2023 6:41am

In Virginia, you can get special license plates for classic cars after they turn 25 years old, and the process involves scribing the VIN on the hood. This plate is permanent and eliminates the need for annual inspections or registrations.
