I was so familiar with that song in my younger years I remember one day in high school sitting in class and out of boredom writing all the lyrics to it word for word from memory.:yesnod:

I was raised about 25 miles north of Stockbridge Mass so this song resonates deeply for me. Life as Woody describes it used to be as simple as he says. Thanks for ressurecting this thread every year.

always enjoy this thread. back then you had these strange creatures - they could sing, compose, play a guitar, and tell you a story with their songs. now? 3 chords, one repeated line, very little talent other than marketing themselves.

Two iconic thanksgiving traditions, listened to Alice’s Restaurant at noon today on WRIF as I have for 20+ years

WMGK in Phila played it ( all 18 minutes) at 8am, 12 noon and 4 pm today. :cool1:

Interestingly enough, it's a protest against an overbearing government. And to think we call them hippies...
