Cargo hits it around 1am this morning :willy: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/03...ridge-collapse https://www.wbaltv.com/article/balti...ridge/60303975 |
OMG, that's horrible.. Same thing happened here in the Tampa Bay area a few decades ago when a ship hit the Sunshine Skyway bridge in 1980..
|
Been watching it since about 4 am. Pretty amazing video out there of the collision.
|
Wow....
|
Looks like the ship lost power at least twice before ramming the bridge pier.
|
Lucky it wasn't the morning rush or hundreds could be dead.

Ya know prices are going up on everything if the port is closed for any longer than a few days.
Suprised it didn't have massive protection barriers especially being such both a large bridge and busy port. |
Now terrorists will be hijacking ships to take our bridges down !

And it appears the ship was leaving port full of containers? |
You can see the ship go dark twice before impact.
Links from Rumble work here. Fook Youtube. :yesnod: |

If you watch closely, it looks like that initial turn was probably not a commanded turn. Obviously some electrical issues based on the lighting going on/off repeatedly. The plume of exhaust smoke gets very thick and black, probably when full astern power was commanded, but I'm guessing the steering was nonresponsive. Too much weight to slow down before impact even with full astern power.
