If I didnt have bad luck, id have no luck at all.
Too my dad up to the extreme north end of the county to pickup a tractor he bought , a 1940 Ford 9N....I knew the tractor was under 3000lbs, so no big deal, 16 foot trailer can handle it...
Well, made the 60 mile trip up there..got it loaded....about 10 miles into the return trip,,,BOOOOM... RR trailer tire exploded hard. The fender brace had failed, and the fender backing rubbed one of the tires raw and it let go. Well, I dont carry a spare, because I keep good tires on this trailer, and I rarely have more than 800-1000lbs on it at a time, and rarely take it more than 10 miles from the shop for P&D.... So...yeah. And of course, in a data dead zone....had 1 bar of phone...called my cousin, he brought a tire and a jack, and I swapped it on...of course, spare was nearly flat, but it got me to the gas station to pump it up... Ill post pics in the morning...too exhausted. And of course we got torrential rain the entire time... On a good note, this is the most Ive hauled and the farthest, with my diesel truck and did perfect...averaged 14mpg, not bad considering I did 50 miles at 40mph because of the tire... |

For this one for 650 with 3pt and a boom pole. It needs some love, but its all there, even came with a new coil, and its been converted to 12v....Even has good tires front and rear, an an ew exhaust. Previous owner was killed when it backed over him...so it may be some bad juju going on there that killed my tire...who knows. |
My uncle has an old 8n. The distributor died on it. I took a GM HEI and cut off the bottom, machined a new bottom and welded it back together, plus a couple other tweaks. Stuck it in and the tractor fired right up.

Then when I got into trucks, I found that oversized tires and aftemrarket exhausts dont mix...the spares no longer fit under the bed...so, its something you have to deal with, if you get a flat, you are fked. On the trailer, I keep a good set on it, these are probably as old of tires as Ive ever had..they are 4-5 years old, but still showing full tread, and only 2 have any kind of flaws, which is minor cracking in the tread valleys.... What inm planning to do is, just buy one good probably used tire to get me back in business with my deliveries...then find a good new set of wheels and Bias-ply trailer tires..14"...should pull better. |

Not being prepared isn't bad luck.....it's not being prepared. |
Love my 8N. its a 1948 and one of the first made. Perfect size for my place and a good bush hogging tractor. Glad you made it home safe...eventually.
