And the Douchebag of the Year award goes to the Francesco Schettino!

Captian of the Costa Concordia

Or shall we say "Shit"tino?

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...0Schettino.jpg

This sack-of-shit overrides, bypasses, and disables all of his ship's safety protocols, software and hardware that is in place to keep his the ship from trying to sail through dry land...
And then kills his vessel and 11 people (last count) and jeopordized every soul on board by steering it up an over rocks, while attempting to do a close "sail-by" and wake the harbor to impress a buddy that lives on the island.

To top it off, he abandons the ship, and refuses repeaded orders to reboard and aid in the rescue. (that he's already FUBAR'd)

He has killed 11;
destroyed a modern ship worth millions,
and may have bankrupted a cruise line.

His actions go well beyond any description that's fitting. Although, three quick ones I think are loser, dumbass, and mo-ron.

VatorMan 01-17-2012 7:36pm

He ought to save his company and family trouble by offing himself.

Datawiz 01-17-2012 7:38pm

Major dickhead.

Poog 01-17-2012 7:39pm

Ultimately, the Italian justice system will give him a slap on the wrist.

burtonbl103 01-17-2012 7:39pm

What an asshole !
after reading that transcript !

R.Zaragoza 01-17-2012 7:39pm

He has certainly done a good job advancing Italian naval traditions.

Issues 01-17-2012 7:45pm

Last I've heard he is being charged with manslaughter ..

What a dumass stunt, how did that dumshit get a captains license anyway.

Is that a friggin boulder jammed into the hole in the side of the ship?

neece 01-17-2012 7:59pm

My vote for douchebag of the year goes to Obama. He has screwed way more people.

Yep. That ship had to be full steam to rip that big-ass rock out of the ground.

Life, as he knows it, is over. :hurray:

At first I wondered if he was French... He ran so fast

Rotorhead 01-17-2012 8:29pm

I deal with a lot of helicopters that are based on yachts. I have yet to hear anything good about a captain on a boat.

NCC-1701 01-17-2012 8:44pm

I wonder how they are going to remove it I guess in sections.

I thought the guy was a captain. Perhaps this is an example of screw up and get promoted.

I can't believe that that ship is a total loss. I would imagine that they would make sections of the ship watertight, then pump in compressed air and pump out the seawater. It would probably be a multi stage process, but eventually, it seems like that could right and float the ship. From there, tow it to drydock and effect repairs.

That's just a guess, though.

It amazes me that people like this get and keep high ranking positions. It's like they just grabbed some schmoe off the street and said, "Here buddy. Will you 'drive' this ship for us." :wtf:

It's not just patching the hull that would need to be repaired. All of the engines, generators and electrical components that were exposed to sea water would have to be replaced. Considering there are six diesel engines and generators, it may be too costly to repair/replace them as well as any other of the electronics.

But it would make sense to patch it, float it and decomm it in a dry dock. Too much enviromental damage to occur if they scrap it there.
