I have flown for 20 years +

And don't have a pilots license...

My entire adult life I have worked as an Airborne News/Traffic Reporter on various Radio Stations in Southern California...Both in Fixed Wing and Helicopters.

I've been through some shit, including one crash where the airplane was destroyed, walked away without a scratch.

Flying has always been work for me. I never wanted to do it outside of "work", but pride got the better of me. Over these last few months, I have worked on getting my Private Fixed Wing License.

Tomorrow, I will be going on my Solo Long Cross Country Requirement:

150 Nautical Miles total distance with full stop landings at at 3 points and one segment of at least 50nm between takeoffs/landings.

Say a little prayer. I've got this, but I don't have a lot of time alone in an aircraft.

I'm excited and a bit scared, but I have been doing this for 20 years. I have planned well.

Congrats, you'll do fine.

Yes, I'm jealous. :seasix:

Just make sure you watch Sully a couple of times in case you have to make a water landing.

It's just a check ride... you got this.

When I did my long cross country in 92 I got to experience a failed vacuum pump halfway through the first leg. The parking brake locked up when doing the run up at the first stop. Then there were forest fires along the route on the third leg home, I found out that a Cessna 152 could climb at 1500 fpm with the throttle at idle, then it would take full power and a lot of pulling on the yolk to limit the decent rate to 1500 fpm. All that while trying to stay clear of the smoke. I was worn out when I finally got home.

Woo-hoo sending you well wishes
Very cool indeed

I went for mine decades ago, but never finished. I loved it, just too expensive.

Good luck! Should be tons of fun.

Enjoy! Those first solo flights are very special, but even after flying for over 30 years it's still a thrill for me every time the wheels leave the runway. :cool1:

In fact, we just got home this evening from a quick day trip out to Cape Cod. An hour or so in the air is a hell of a lot more fun than sitting in that traffic for hours on end!

You'll be fine when they gut the tail of your shirt after landing

My daughter, at age 17 decided to get her fixed wing license. She hasnt finished yet due to work, life etc.. But, the pictures, the freedoms that come with it.
Congrats.

That has already happened. :kimblair:

This is pretty much the last thing before booking the checkride. I'm right there. :)

Good stuff. I started ground school (free at the college where I work) but had to stop when the Kungflu hit and then found out I couldn't pass the physical :(

wish I could have kept with it.

Keep trying on the Medical part of it. Class 3 Medical isn't too hard to get. I had to jump through a few hoops due to my Kidney Stone history and Hypertension, but in the end, I was granted a 3rd Class Medical.

I ended up doing all of the Ground myself with various books and study guides. Passed the written with 95%, I was surprised I scored that high to be honest.

I'm on a neurologic medication (Fioricet) and that's an absolute No-go for the FAA.

Once I'm off it for a year, then I can give it another shot. 6 months left.....
