Motor Trend is most always wrong about Corvette Rumors, but...

They were about 90% right on the C5 before it came out.

From the new December 09 Issue -

"... the next Corvette is back on track and GM has given the design department the okay to apply the '63 Sting-Ray style split rear window, as seen on the Sideswipe Transformers concept car unveiled at last Februarys Chicago Auto Show. The Sideswipe appeared in Transformers 2 but none of the design beyond the rear window will see the light of day...."

Also in this same article is confirmation that GM is greenlighting the Z-28 Camaro with the same blown LSA found in the CTS-V and a six-speed manual.

This could actually pan out?!? :o_o:

Culookin 10-30-2009 7:44am

We'll see, I'm glad they're coming out with the Z-28, even though they did it backwards...

V6< RS << Z-28 < SS, at least as I was growing up

I'm interested to see both of these cars.

It would have had to exist to be scrapped.

As for the split window C7, the most important bit of styling is now how they integrate the rear-view camera on the body and the monitor in the interior...

BuckyThreadkiller 11-28-2009 11:45pm

I think the mid engine was a figment of somebody's imagination.

Apex, I think you're right about the rearview cam. I'd love to see them lose the rearview side mirrors as well and incorporate a panoramic view monitor into the windshield header.

You want Photon Torpedos and anti-matter containment fields too?

Great idea, but I'm not sure this can happen. I don't believe the DOT will allow a camera to replace a mirror, only supplement. The split window C7 will likely still have a conventional rear view mirror installed, even if it turns out to be largely useless. An example of this would be the Lotus Exige with its nearly ornamental rear view mirror.

I'm betting that they'll bring out the split window in 2013 for the 50th anniversary of the split. But from all I'm getting from a real inside source, the motor in the C7 is going to take a major hit in hp.

As it did in the late 70's and 80's. In the end it's okay as long as the vette continues to survive.

C7 build

I work at Colonial Chevrolet, and a post from GM said that the C7 will come out in 2012 as a 2013 model. They said that the power and tradition of the Corvette will be carried over to the C7, but the will be looking at making the Corvette just a bit shorter, and making it lighter, and will be playing with a better gas milage supercharged engine. They said that although it would not be the Stingray design concept car, some elements of the design might be carried over in the final design.

RC000E 02-02-2011 10:22pm

If it only took GM one year, back in 1963 to realize the split window was a poor design choice, why in the world would they do it again?

I say "it ain't happenin" and if it does, lets all sit back and watch the sales go down.

It'd be nice for America to do something new, instead of rip off all the good that has been done already.

...and has been since the 1970s. A mid-engine layout just doesn't make any sense for the Corvette.

Fasglas 02-07-2012 9:03pm

Split window ?
Love it.....
On a '63.
Anything else, not so much.

Bucwheat 02-24-2012 3:36pm

Just another speculation.
