Texas Front Plate Law

OK, I know you are required to run a front plate in Texas and that the state has been cracking down on those that choose not to comply.

Has anyone here actually been ticketed for the lack of a front plate? In the past, a warning has been the outcome for me. (see avatar)

You can only avoid a ticket if you have hit a poor little bunny doing 140mph.....other wise I think you get a real ticket.

Torch Red Tim 04-08-2011 4:20pm

1 warning, 0 tickets

wwomanC6 04-08-2011 5:35pm

1 nice, friendly reminder w/ speeding ticket, but no ticket for license plate.

Avoid the Starbucks on Beach St in FTW on the weekend. Few weekends pass they were ticketing anyone without front plates there.

3 Warnings, no tickets. All by the Highway Patrol in the same area.

And yes, it does show up on the ticket if you've been warned previously in the same vehicle.

One warning - DPS waved me over while he had a Viper pulled over on FM 5.

Blue Demon 04-22-2011 11:15am

3 warnings, no tickets, from various areas of the state.

3 warnings in a 2 week period. I caved in and put on the front plate.

Ok Tom, Beth, and the gang, so CheySha and I been on the look out for C6 front license plate mounts in order not to get a ticket or warning. The C5 has a spot you can convert for a license plate:

Don't care for this look because it does not flow with the lines!

We were thinking about the remote control one mounted under the front that you can pop out when needed. Like the one TorchRedTim has:

But he informed us as soon as you scrape it on something it may not work due to the arms getting bent.:slap: Not a good idea since we both live on a hill with slopped driveways! Back to drawing board!

Then we saw this and thought well not to bad with the right colors! This car has a black and yellow theme. So this one goes well with this car:

But then came along this frame:http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...osseGTG031.jpg

Not Bad!!! This one looks like it belongs there! Only concern, in the Texas heat does it make your car run hot!?!

So far that last one is looking the best! Your thoughts?

Defib1961 05-09-2011 8:36pm

The last one is the best looking.

When I was pulled over for the last warning, the DPS Trooper...who had a real attitude BTW...hands me the warning slip and says in a totally snotty voice "I'd suggest you get this taken care of. We're on the lookout for cars like this." So I responded "Profile much?"

He comes back with "If you don't put the plate on, it can cost you money." I just looked at him and said "With all due respect, there will never be a front plate permanently affixed to the front of this car. I'll put it on to get signed off, but it'll be done with tape and it'll come off immediately."

He just shook his head and walked away.

Anyway, I just recently traded in the black Challenger, so what I said held true.

AC54ME 05-23-2011 9:14pm

We went with the 'electric motor driven' hidden plates on both Verts a couple of years ago.

Never pulled over in 20 years driving our Vettes without plates, but as the saying goes 'better to be safe than sorry'.

just recently pulled over in the Abilene area for no front plate. I was only given a warning.

At the 11th LSCC I looked at some of those motorized front plate holders...

Still can't figure out where to put it.

I can't decide if this is what we saw on the black C6 or not... It's an adhesive mount though and that can't be good during a Texas summer?!

Every time I see the center mount, blocking the radiator air intake, I think of this ....

I had the manually operated hide-away version on my C6.
