Talk to me about Miami....

Wife and I are thinking we may spend our 10 year anniversary celebrating somewhere other than at or near home....what do you know about Miami?

boracayjohnny 04-26-2019 9:31pm

When?

Do you both like beaches and heat?

How about night life...here's a sample of the open air clubs that have the overseas, open air vibe:

Black94lt1 04-27-2019 12:09am

Never been but I’ll bet you get slapped at some point for looking at someone :D

Norm 04-27-2019 12:33am

Miami....eh, for me, OK to stay a day and see the sites, nice ride down to Key West I would do, get some conch fritters.

mrvette 04-27-2019 4:26am

Norm has the right idea, Miami is ok, but the best of it is Miami Beach.....so to see the sights, and I hope the beach sand has been restored somehow, it was all washed out BADLY some 20 years ago when I went there....I forget all the tourist spots, need do homework.....then stay at Homestead, south of Miami, and head of the road to Key West....US1 of course....you CAN do it all in one day, IF you get up early at Homestead, and drive south to KW, park on the island and take the transports to all the sites....Hemmingway house, bars, the REAL bar he drank at, and of course the Butterfly house, lighthouse, and many other sites....have dinner at a hotel/motel that has a dining facility out over the beach, overlooking Cuba and watch the sunset......then your choice to drive north again to Homestead or stay overnight and tour some sites on the way north the next day.... then to hit the Alley gator Alley, Tamiami Trail and stop off at a 'gator farm'.....and go for an airboat ride on the infamous SWAMP....you could keep going straight ahead to the west coast of Florida, and it stops at a nice spot with decent parking, and dip into the Gulf.....

for my 70th birthday, wife gave me a trip to KW, and we drove the entire way from Jacksonville Fl, for an entire week, it was a BLAST!!!!

:seasix::hurray:

we came up the west coast to Cedar Key, one of our favorite haunts, a nice sleepy town....stopped off and caught an airboat ride on the gulf just south of there.....gotta sit up front on the bow.....seriously.....:rofl:

Born and raised there, but to be fair I left in 76, parents left in 92. There will be traffic, and lots of it. It will be expensive. There is tons of nightlife. If you want to go to South Beach, traffic will be grid locked, expect to pay $25+ to park, if you can find a place. Expect $10+ alcohol. Aside from that, lots to do. You may be able to catch a Marlins game, enjoy the zoo. You can go to the beach (Key Biscayne, north Miami Beach, Ft. Lauderdale); John Pennekamp Coral Reef Stat Park in the upper Keys, Everglades National Park.

mrvette 04-27-2019 12:37pm

Everglades National Park......it's a swamp.....just like at bottom of my hill, except MUCHO LARGER!!!!

:shots:

OH, and all the snakes are OUTLAW size......:leaving:

Miami is awesome. Lots of hot Latino girls, good food, music, scenery, the whole art deco thing. Rich people EVERYWHERE. Ok, I must admit, I've never been there, but I did watch Miami Vice...:D:leaving:

Miami is my hometown. Now that I am in my late 40’s, it has nothing I desire. YMMV, but we prefer the Tampa Bay Area. Plenty to do and see, but not the craziness of Miami.

I know you guyz will not believe this BUT, when Miami mice was on TV, I was the field tech/rep for a walk through metal detector company, and among many interesting stops was to Miami....at a jewelry mfgr......as in solid gold....and of course employee theft....

the head of security dressed like Miami mice, and acted like it too....AND all the security personnel were outSTANDINGLY GREAT LOOKING GALS!!!!!

ROCKET FOXES!!!!!! I damn nearly embarrASSed my self on a couple of occasions they were THAT GREAT LOOKING!.....

they had to leave through out high sense machines, and there was a flower pot/stand near the machines on the way out, and it somehow accumulated a LOT of company precious metals......gee, wonder why.....

they even had spools of gold wire go out shop windows, spools of 24k gold wire the size/shape of what you would buy at a supply house....single strand copper.....

:dance::)

BTW, them chicks were all open carry on the hip, police style....

Miami Ocean Drive Nightlife - Sights and Sounds - YouTube

Time frame would be late Oct/Early November. Not so much clubbing type people. I am a cigar and coffee kind of guy, so thats some of the allure to me.

No parking to spend $25+ on...won't have a car there. Uber and Lyft will be our savior there. Don't mind expensive drinks...we typically only have one or two each when out. I definitely will want to check out Key West, so that may actually be the ultimate destination.

We typically vacation in the Tampa bay/Clearwater/St. Pete area...love the Cuban vibe in Ybor City. That factors into a possible Miami trip.

outrunm 04-27-2019 10:54pm

IMO Ybor has the good stuff Miami has without all the douchbaggery. That being said, I agree that a Miami trip would be a pretty cool experience if you are into that vibe and have never been there.

If Key West is a priority, Let me suggest taking the Key West Express. ( www.keywestexpress.net ) Leaves from Ft. Myers and Marco Island, 3 hour boat ride to Key West. Saves a couple hours driving (unless you have the burning desire to drive thru Miami and then the down the overseas highway). You won't need a car in Key West anyway. Departs early in the AM, in KW by noon. You can stow luggage on the boat (and bicycles) stay a few days and take the afternoon boat back. they do serve drinks and food on the boat. We loved it when we went, and already have tickets for sometime this summer.

Hmm...that sounds more like a vacation! Exactly what I am after! I’ll let the lady know, and maybe try to sway her thinking about Miami! Thanks Ron!

Plus, in my opinion, the west coast is much nicer. Slower pace, some of the best beaches in the world. Great places between Tampa and Ft. Myers - Sarasota, Venice and tons of nice little towns.

+1

I really hated the 3 night stay we made on Miami Beach. When I can't even buy meat on my breakfast sandwich on a Sunday due to religion?!?! Will never go back.
