That one item you own that served you best

We've all owned many, many things in our lives, but what's that one item that gave you the most bang for your buck, the most service in it's useful life, the best value over time.

For me, it's not an overpriced van or old Rolex but my old bike helmet. I've owned and used that old helmet for 18 years and doing the math we have shared over 30,000 miles on a bike together, even by conservative calculations. We've been hit by 3 cars and made one trip to the hospital, rode through sun and rain and even a little snow out of my last three homes and outlasted 4 bikes. I finally had to replace it today but can't bring myself to toss it out. It cost $40 18 years ago, that's a pretty low operating cost per mile. New one set me back $50 but it should be the last one I ever buy.

Your turn.

My old 2000 Chevy stepside single cab truck.

I never needed a truck and then I bought one anyway. I'll never NOT own a truck.

40 years old and has never let me down. The best $2500 I ever spent. (bought it used 30 years ago)Attachment 74608

I have some hand tools and pens I've had more than 55 years that I feel the same way about. Always dependable.

A minelab metal detector. Found many times the money I paid for it and always fun.

Bought one new in 1996. Same color (no stripes) for $9,900.

That little truck was awesome. Wish I still had it. Bullet proof and you could not get it stuck off road. :seasix:

Kitchen aid mixer. I think I’ve had it about 35 years.

The original owner bought mine because of the cheesy stripes. He added the lift kit and the cheesy wheels. I was going to remove the stripes 30 years ago but now am glad I didn't. Still original paint, and it's only been garaged the past 4 years of its life. Amazing build quality in these old Japanese-built 'yotas.

Those were great right from factory. I believe I had 33’s on stock steelies and stock suspension.

Mine was the 4 banger with a 5 speed. Damn thing could climb a tree if it could hold on.

While we do trust you, we're really gonna need some baked goods shipped out to us....just to confirm your story.

Bought my wife the basic tilt-back 30 years ago. A couple years back she would always eyeball the newer bowl-lift style.

So last year I bought her one along with a zip bag type case for it. She loves it but has not been used yet and she still brings out the old one. Women-

Damn things are like tanks
