House we had the crown molding looked worse than that when moved in. The butchered the installation so bad I actually saved most of it. Nails were optional apparently.

I had the opposite issue. The builder put up my crown by nailing both corners first and working toward the middle. It apparently bowed out (too long) so they proceeded to put about 25 nails in a 3 foot span to hold the bow to the wall. :mad:

He installed "crown" molding, which was actually some sort of inverted baseboard profile, around the ceiling of his family room, and one piece is about 1" short of meeting the corner. He didn't feel like buying more molding, because "you can't really notice it".
