Tornado emergency issued for Oklahoma City area - CNN.com
Bettis says his SUV was thrown about 600 feet in the air, it landed and is destroyed..all inside were okay, airbags deployed... The Dominator 2 was about 30 seconds away, and intercepted the same funnel, the D2's Armoured hood was ripped clean off the body... |
What the F did they expect was going to happen chasing tornadoes? :slap:

Bettis and the TH2K13 team are not an intercept team, they are there to observe from a distance as things unfold. This storm came in hard and fast, they got caught in the crosshairs.
Whats troubling is, the Dominator took heavy damage..Reed Timmer built that thing tough, so the storm was a bitch and a half. |
Dumb Fux:
Tornado Hunt Team Takes Direct Hit by Tornado
http://s.imwx.com/dru/2013/05/e8de16...f6_650x366.jpg The Weather Channel Tornado Hunt Team is safe, but shaken up after their chase vehicles took a direct hit by a violent tornado west of Oklahoma City. Meteorologist Mike Bettes was chasing the monster rain-wrapped tornado near El Reno, Okla. when he says the storm picked up the heavy chase SUV and threw it an estimated 200 yards. Bettes and his team members are alive, but they do have minor injuries. "I saw my life flash before my eyes," Bettes said in a live phone interview as soon as he established phone connection after the incident. He says the airbags deployed and everyone had their seat belts on. He reported seeing other vehicles that had also been thrown by the storm. The storm is now forcing a tornado emergency in Oklahoma City. Go to the weather.com severe tracker for the very latest on watches and warnings. |

I was just reading that TIV2...the other tornado intercept vehicle, intercepted a Twister on the 27th and suffered multiple hull breeches, and damage..it recorded winds speeds of 175mph before the anemometer was ripped off....thats EF4 range..

Large Tornado heading for St Louis....

IF the damn Fed.gov quit seeding the clouds, the tornadoes would be much less.....

I tip my hat to these brave folks who put their lives on the line in the name of Advancing tornado information, keep in mind...20 years ago, the sirens generally went off a matter of minutes before a Tornado hit...best case. Now its up to 15-20 minutes lead time...this is life saving, there have been untold lives saved because of the information gained from the Dominator, TIV, and other tornado chasing teams...

Big 'ol Suburban did its job!

Advanced warning? Sheeeit! Bunch of dumbass's if you ask me. Advanced warning is one thing. Putting yourself in harms way on purpose is another.
What if that those morons had gotten someone killed while they were rolling around in that pos vehicle? Technology has advanced to a point they do not need to do half the crap they do. |

Stay safe folks and hunker down in a storm cellar. |

its a dangerous job...but someone has to do it. It has inherent risks, but the "POS Vehicle"...not sure where that comment came from...held up well and everyone walked away. I can promise you, if you and your family were in the path of the storm...and your weather guy was getting mixed signals from his various radars and screens...and he was hesitant...but he gets a call from Reed Timmer saying..Tornado is forming, call in the warning"...and you get 15 minutes of advance warning, vs 5 minutes..you would be singing his praises. |

Shit happens...im glad they are okay. |

They think of themselves as the "weather experts". In their arrogance, they decides to name winter storms and now showing even more brilliance, they almost killed a suburban full of people chasing tornadoes. It's one thing to gather info but they put flashy broadcasts in front human safety and common sense. :slap: |
Who's Mike Bettis..?
|
I was watching the broadcasts that Bettis was putting on..not..flashy, or anything like that. His coverage yesterday was great, he was in the perfect position to see a storm drop, but it fizzled out.
