F-4 Phantoms anyone??

I thought this was some great footage. I have some photos of a couple of these F-4's when they were out at Nellis AFB several years back. Love these things..

:cool1: Whole lot of airplane.

We carried an F-4 on the helo deck of our destroyer tender from Japan back to San Diego. Someone had erroneously ordered it and they needed it back in San Diego so hoisted it onto our helo deck for the trip back - they would NOT let us take any photos and threatened court martial if we did. Love those planes though.

How do you erroneously order a F-4? Not like you ordered an alternator instead of a starter for the CC's jeep!

Definitely James, one of my favorite aircraft....

Some storekeeper bragged you could order ANYTHING in the Navy with an 11 digit part number - he had the number for an F4 so he tried ordering it. They delivered it.

He was court martialed and drummed out of the Navy. The Admiral in charge of that area was not amused and ordered our Captain to haul it back. Everyone in command was pissed off. That is why they would not let us take pics. Touchy subject I guess.

The F-4. Proof that given enough power, you can make even a brick fly.

One of my favorites, a few from the AF Museum at WPAFB.

My favorite jet fighter. All American aces of the Vietnam war flew F-4's. Also read that the F-4 is the only plane that was used by the Air Force, Navy and Marines.:patriot::patriot::patriot:

You should be ashamed shooting down a F-4 like that! The guy flying it remote isn't even trying hard!:D I know we need live fire for stuff like that, but I hate to see iconic aircraft being blown to bits. Kind of heart wrenching...

I have a framed photo of the 5000th Phantom going vertical. I had sent off to McDonnell Douglas in the early 80's for it. My first boss in the Air National Guard was a crew chief on F-4's during Vietnam. I had him sign it for me and all the dates he crewed them.:seasix:
