bike

since this is not CF : i was on my bike racing yes i was going really really really fast, someone cuts me off locked up the bike and my rear brakes stopped working, ended up when i locked up the bike this is what happened, remember i am not posting this on CF, because i know i was wrong and really dont want to hear the BS, Heres a pic of my rear brake caliper went from 160 to 30 very quickly
http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq264/chucka/006.jpg
yes the caliper and brake spun around, dont know how, but it did:confused5:

Chuck A 06-03-2012 9:46pm

PS the caliper is supposed to be one the bottom, i f-ed up my rear brakes.

MEANZ06 06-03-2012 9:49pm

Street racing on a bike... :slap:

:D

vtelvr 06-03-2012 9:50pm

Ouch. Hope you're ok. At least you know where you messed up:D

JRD77VET 06-03-2012 9:52pm

Did you have the correct torque values on the rear axle? The top pic shows the cutout on the caliper bracket that is supposed to keep the bracket in the correct orientation.

Are there marks on the inside of the swingarm showing it was assembled correctly?

Oh, one more thing. As a fellow motorcyclist, Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Chuck A 06-03-2012 10:16pm

well i just rechecked it looks as though the bracket that holds the caliper in place was not put on properly, very pissed off indeed

Yikes! You're very lucky it didn't throw you off or down.....who did the last work on the bike?

Chuck A 06-03-2012 10:30pm

i dont know have the bike serviced before i bought it,,i am wondering if i should reinstall the rear tire, yes i will reinstall it

Mr Brns C6 06-03-2012 10:38pm

Holy Cow Chuck, glad you're around to write about it........better have a few Heinies :shots::cert::shots:

pappytinker 06-04-2012 2:55am

I would remove that cube valve cap and replace it with a simple one. I have seen instances where the centrifugal force caused by the spinning wheel caused the valve stem to bend over from the weight and break the stem causing sudden, catastrophic loss of air. Not a good thing.

Giraffe (He/Him) 06-04-2012 5:03am

Holy Hell you're lucky. That could have gone bad in a big hurry. My roaring around days are behind me. When I ride now, (Which is often) it's a leasurly putt.

Besides, both my bikes are Harleys. They don't really go fast. :D

Kerrmudgeon 06-04-2012 7:54am

That's Kharma, and you got off easy. :slap:

Stupidity might be a good explanation (been guilty myself). Glad you're O.K. though. Did you check over the work to make sure it was done right this time and have you looked into track time if you want to keep testing your luck?

Fastguy 06-04-2012 5:23pm

That is scary, could have snapped and broke the rear apart.

I had to laugh a little at the "cut me off" part though.

I was thinking about Scissors' thread when I read the OP here.

...Whitepower... 06-04-2012 5:27pm

Don't all those bikes come in crates and require some assembly?

I would go to the shop where it was purchased from and demand that a master tech fix it (free parts and labor).

If he bought it new that's an option.

If the previous owner/mechanic was that careless on assembly, I would double check a lot of items before riding again. You were lucky this time.

:iagree: A simple valve cap would be a much better ( and safer ) idea.

Just remember, every time you double a RPM, the centrifugal weight quadruples. Just to make up some numbers to give you an idea, if that cube weighs 1 lb at 20 mph, it will weigh 4 lbs at 40 mph and 16 lbs at 80 mph.

That would extrapolate to 64 lbs at the 160 you were traveling :willy:

Had the vert out great time was blasting Metalica for whom the bell tolls, then took out the freaking monster, GAME OVER, the bike is freaking insane, and also need to put some more miles on the bike want to change the oil to synthetic

Chuck A 08-05-2012 1:07pm

my wife keeps saying to get rid of the vert , since i drive it once every 3 or 4 months, yes i love the vert but once you go fast bike well , its hard to go back , but the vert is here to stay

On a motorcycle you should be checking for loose nuts and bolts on a regular basis as a standard procedure. I once found a spark plug held in by about 2 threads

not really sure, i sat on the bike and tested it , i can move the throttle and also handle the brake, but this will need to be tested when i actually have the bike on the road, i tested the bike while it wasnt moving , i am really hoping so, i really hate to get rid of the bikes, but soon i can actually give you the answer

Back in my early 20s, I broke the radius bone in my right arm ( next to the wrist). I had a cast covering my hand ( only the fingers stuck out) up to my armpit.

Took me two weeks to figure out I could still ride my KZ750 :D

Driving cars in competition has helped me understand just how sensitive tires are to surface temp. I have an old Yamaha with a single disc front and rear drum. The first time I took it out on a really cold day, I tried the brakes and the rear locked up really fast. I also noticed it pushes more so as long as I ride mellow, I am fine.

Fastguy 02-05-2013 12:09am

I would be afraid of it leaking. I had a needle valve in the carb stick one day and came home to find a pool of fuel under my bike. That is why most home owner policies forbid storing any gas powered equipment inside the living quarters and why garages are fire rated.

Has a 5 gallon fuel tank and no guage. I switch over to reserve between 90 and 110 on the trip meter with normal riding. Reserve is a gallon so 4 gallons to go 100 miles equals 25mpg.

If anything that's overestimated because I've done the mod that allows me to fill to the cap rather than the bottom of the downtube which allows for an extra half gallon.

Probably was a few mpg better before all those engine mods (I can only run premium)... But what fun is that :D

That is my husband's boss's bike. He never rode the thing and when he heard I was in the market for something similar he said I could borrow it for the weekend. I doubled the miles on it before giving it back. :D

It was a lot of fun but the 400 fits what I wanted more than that 650.

If you enjoy that style of bike, you can run on down and buy a brand new Royal Enfield that looks very similar to that.....made by the good folks in India, so you know the customer service after the sale is gonna be great.
