The Brady Bunch kitchen question

What was that big gaping hole in the brick next to the double wall oven?

Looks like it could be some sort of indoor charcoal or wood-burning barbecue grill. If that's what it is, I've never heard of such a thing outside of this show, though. :dunno:

It's rustic. The little alcove was to store wood for the wood burning oven that isn't there.

Laundry chute?

Yes, but there is a stainless steel plate about 8" by 30" , about 18" down from the hole... like it's an ash clean out point.

Ok, I just saw a close up shot, looking into the lower right corner. Last shot of the episode "Marsha Gets Creamed".

There is definitely a grill surface inside, barely above or just even with the grade of the brick front bottom edge.

That episode was NOT what I thought it would be about. Misleading title is misleading.

You're worried about that? Hell, The exterior and interior of the Brady Bunch house do not match. At all. Not one bit. In case you never noticed: The interior set depicts a soaring two-story home with the second story over the structure’s right side; the outside is a low-slung split-level with a second story over the left side.

I never really noticed, but I assume it is an indoor charcoal grill. I have one in my kitchen that I've never used. I think they were a 60's fad.

And another thing: If memory serves me correctly, "Rainbow" Brady was an architect. No feckin' architect is gonna design a split-level house, much less live in one! :issues:

Indoor charcoal grills would be dangerous--carbon monoxide.
