My first street motorcycle ride

in about 10 yrs. I sold my HD yrs. ago. I've rented a few times to scratch the itch. I got my 1972 SL125 legit with John Law today and took it out for a spin.
I preserved it as a survivor vs. resto. My SL350 will get a full resto.

Insert video of Montrose's Bad Motor Scooter here.

That is the same as the one I had for guests at the lake. Mine is an XL250 that has about 400 miles on it from 74 and since I never used the little one, I gave it to the nephews to play with. They restored it to like new and use it off the road.

My little brother (their Dad) almost died in a bike accident when we were kids. Broke both arms, both legs, plates and pins everywhere. Soooooo, no street riding for his kids. :seasix:

100MPG and will keep up with traffic. Enough metal onboard to reliably trip traffic lights. Near zero maintenance costs and all in price was probably less than the sales tax on a new Big Twin. Sounds like a win-win-win to me!

And because of their popularity in Asia and throughout the world from everything from 3 wheel taxis to mini pickup trucks, they make all of the parts you need for the bike. :seasix::yesnod:

Also, if you own stock Big Twin, don't run his 350 in the 1/8th for pinks.....

The 350 is a torque monster. I see why they are so popular in vintage racing. My head will be going to Bore-Tech to be 'breathed' on :D And maybe a race cam from Delta camshaft. All in the sleeper look :)

....got any pics of the 350 Jerry? :bigears:

Be careful to temper big flow numbers with the need for street manners. 45 HP or more is no fun in traffic if it doesn't start below 6K RPMs. Unless you own stock in Barnett Industries....

I will have to get some of the actual bikes. I have a survivor blue one that runs now. The SL was different from street models and only had a kick start. Also minus the problematic street version CV carbs. These have the Keihin slide type. I have to restore my red one. This is the way I hope it turns out. No rushing it. Going to enjoy the resto process.

Let's see, Hondas hmmmm.....I started with a Honda 50 step through, then 2 S-90s, then a twin 175, a 305 Dream with those funny dresser style fenders, a 450 Hellcat, then the 2 dirt bikes, and 2 650-4s currently under restoration (very slow), and finally a pair of mini Hondas a Z50 and a CT70 that are around here somewhere!.....Honda's, that's me.

Driving a damn Civic right now as well. Third Civic. First was a brand new 76. Man I beat the crap out of that little thing. Sold it for a hundred less than I paid for it a year later. Those were the days. :drivingskid:

My parents bought me a new 1970 candy blue mini trail 50.Then a new '74 Yamaha 80. A new '77 or '78 XL125. A 1974 KX125 (in boxes now). A new 1981 XL185. My first street bike was an '80s something Honda Shadow. Then a couple of HDs.

Now - 1972 Yamaha DT100. Two 1972 SL350s. A 1972 SL175 twin. The pictured SL125 and a couple of Skat Kitty minibikes.

My old XL125. It was new at the time. I stripped all the lights off it :D

I have that bike now :) Needs paint, smokes a little. I may take the top end off for a look or replacement. I took a similar pic at the Barber museum - it is my desktop wallpaper lol

All we had was a Honda dealership here growing up. I still remember going in and seeing the Elsinore's and MX bikes. My best buddy would blow me away on his XR75. I still keep an eye out for a reasonable resto project, but like the others, there is a cult following for them and quickly snatched up.
