These are Welfare payments per State:

Attachment 9905

1. The free money is more than $15 an hour in 13 States, more than $10 an hour in 34 States, and more than a full-time job in 35 States.
2. Welfare is more than a newly college educated teacher in eleven States makes.
3. Outdoes the salary of a computer programmer in three States!
4. The highest welfare payouts are over $20 an hour!

when adjusted for CPI, some of those are amazing. $15.68 in Wyoming.

Well at least we're 49th.

OddBall 01-02-2017 2:18pm

I'm obviously doing it wrong.

Fasglas 01-02-2017 2:43pm

Hmmm... Being 49th on this list is NOT a bad thing.

We...yes and no. The 10 states receiving the most in federal aid as a percentage of their general revenue, in order, were:

Mississippi, 42.9% federal aid as percentage of general revenue
Louisiana, 41.9%
Tennessee, 39.5%
South Dakota, 39.0%
Missouri, 38.2%
Montana, 37.4%
Georgia, 37.3%
New Mexico, 36.6%
Alabama, 36.1%
Maine, 35.3%

The percentage of Americans now receiving a federally-funded “means-tested program” now stands at 35.4%. When you add pensions, unemployment, Social Security, and Medicare to the mix, the percentage of Americans relying on government for part or all of their subsistence is 49.5% of the American population.

The bottom line is that spending on Welfare is out of control everywhere. In FY 2017 total US government spending on welfare — federal, state, and local — is “guesstimated” to be $1,127 billion.
