The Build Starts Today
Munch. Eat your heart out. I am leaving work today at 930 to start tearing the car down. I need to Thread lock the cam bolts and Pin the crank. My Procharger is going on this weekend. I will get everything prepped today and go by the barn and get my bracket and headunit tomorrow. Should be done Saturday afternoon. I will get a bunch of pictures to post during the build.
 |
Very cool and about time!
Are you doing any of the work at the barn? If so I'll come up and make sure everything goes smootly. |
I am doing it at Caseys. Its almost done. I need to re connect the radiator and run the boost a pump wires and it will be done. I fired it off yesterday. I will call Virginia speed today to schedule the tune.
|
and where are all these pics we're supposed to be seeing...

So the car is back together minus the hood. Had to replace one of the plastic pullies with a steel one. Goes to Virginia speed tomorrow and on the dyno friday. Numbers and pics to come this weekend.
|
The car has made it home. The dyno numbers are in. I was hoping for 530. I was alittle off. It made 550 hp and 471 tq on 6lbs of boost. I am very happy. I will post the video and dyno sheet along with the pictures of putting everything together as soon as I can get a darn day off work.
Oh on a side note. Traction control plus WOT on a 550 hp car equals reduced engine power and traction control codes for every wheel and sensor. Bad. LOL. I am going to have to remember that. |
You should not be getting Reduced Engine Power (at any hp level), and I'm also not understanding what TC has to do with it? :confused5:
Tuning a boosted car to not trigger REP mode can be tricky, but Ed knows the tricks. I would definitely talk to him about that. Congrats on finishing the project though, sure it feels like a whole new animal now. :D  |
It was kicking p0105 and something else. If the TC system is off its fine. If its on and trys to cut the throttle that is when the codes pop. I need to feel the back of the intake and check on the MAP sensor to make sure it is tight.
|
That's even more interesting, as P0105 isn't a valid code for a C5.
P0106? |
I will check again in alittle bit but I am pretty sure it is 105. Its got a 2.5 bar map sensor also.
|
Nice numbers, that should keep ya out of trouble.
|
You know me better then that.
|
:hurray: So how does she sound now?
|
I can not tell from up front. But from what I hear it sounds good.
|
Congarts! I know you been waiting a long time to get her done.https://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/i...ons/icon14.gif
|
Thanks. I have been waiting a very long time.
|
Awww, I thought today would be pic and video day.
|
Had to work all weekend.
|

|

Start

Radiator out but condensor stays in
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00970.jpg Pulling the Crank hub with a gear puller. If you look close I did not pull the steering rack and wiggle it out of the way. I feel it is easier and fast to just lower the cradle down. Just pop the steering shaft loose, remove the upper strut nut, and pop the upper A arm ball joints loose and lower the whole cradle as far down as you need to clear the pully. You have to replace the TTY cradle nuts though. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00971.jpg Here is another angle. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00972.jpg Pully off. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00973.jpg Timing cover came off so I could Lock tight the cam bolts. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00974.jpg |
The crank is now pinned.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00975.jpg The front of the motor all back together. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00976.jpg The cradle is back up and the waterpump is back on. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00978.jpg Same thing. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00979.jpg The air dam is now mounted to the cross bar of the radiator cradle. The instructions say bend to optimal angle. WTF is optimal angle???? It drags on everything. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00980.jpg And now 3 seconds later its back together. I am just that good. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00981.jpg But No seriously more pictures come need to down load off of the other camera. |
Yes I need to repaint my tanks.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00982.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00983.jpg MSD Boost-a-pump all hooked up in the back behind the driver aft inner fender. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00984.jpg Chevy was nice enough to install a handy dandy tool tray right into the front of the car. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...l/DSC00985.jpg |
Like I said the rest are to come. Also as soon as VA speed emails me the dang dyno video I will post it to. The dyno sheet I will get scanned in to. It made 550/471 on 6lbs.
|
Thanks for the pics, looking forward to seeing it in person. Nice move on dropping the cradle.
So VA Speed shot a video for you, you didn't stay and watch the dyno run? |
Excellent pics :hurray: Looking forward to the video too!
Being a woman I have to ask: You have a kitchen in your garage? :squirrel: |

Good call! |
That is Casey's garage. But yes mine has a Deep Sink also. Munch I had to work.
|
Looking good bro.

|
If you talk to Ed while you're there ask if they charge the full dyno price just to put my car on there and see if it blows up with the nitrous on it.
|
