McIntosh labs?
I noticed, on a commercial for Jeep Grand Cherokee L, that it had a McIntosh sound system! I looked it up and it’s true! So I went to the McIntosh website and noticed they have a music streaming app. So, expecting the best, I installed it and gave it a listen. I could not believe all the crap music! Who is programming this? Some drug addled, man bun wearing twinkie? I have always wished I could afford their equipment. But their streaming music app is the worst. Flush this app.

will not look into it :seasix:

Mc still makes some pretty good gear but are nothing like they used to be. For years there have been higher quality options (both sound and build) available for less money.
Streaming services are trickier and there are pros/cons to each service. Consensus among the audio communities I'm part of is the best ones are: (All are priced comparably) Tidal - excellent SQ Redbook CD quality (FLAC format 16 bit) smaller library than others but great selection of jazz, big band Qobuz - Same as Tidal but a smaller library yet, for now Spotify - Huge library but SQ is less than others above even with their "hifi" Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to knock around ideas or build a system. (I'm just a hobbyist/sound geek) You can get fantastic sound without breaking the bank. Beware the numerous snake oil items out there. Stop in to Command Performance in Falls Church for a listen. They have some great gear and rooms are set up like a regular house, not treated/controlled rooms that make gear sound better than your room at home. I haven't been for a few years but they had a nice selection of gear and were good guys. Scott |

I used to know most of the McIntosh family, Frank, Don, etc by going to Wash National HI FI shows back in the 60's-70's McGuire Audio shop was my dealer, bought ML2c speakers....FOUR of them, stacked 2 per channel, 400 watt RMS/channel Mc amp, tuner, preamp, blow the socks off with any music.....

so with stacking a pair of ML2c speakers PER CHANNEL.....making a 4 ohm load to the amp......amp rated at 400 watts/channel with 8 ohm loading, reduce it to 4 ohm, and so the dynamics are maybe about 500 watts/channel....my amp did not have impedance matching output transformers.....output transistors looking right at the speakers, directly...... |
