Preemptive Perspective on Trump's campaign manager saying that Trump won't...

prosecute Hillary when he takes office. This is not a "promise broken" moment. This is the Trump folks doing a bit of maneuvering so that Obama doesn't do anything too crazy as he leaves office. The President doesn't get to determine if Hillary is prosecuted later or not. That's up to Congress/DoJ/FBI. One thing you can bet on is that if one of these entities tells Trump that there is a criminal case to be made against Hillary, Trump's not going to quash it like, say, Obama is known for doing.

Trump doesn't need to talk about Shrillary right now. He's got more important things to worry about.

Mike Mercury 11-22-2016 11:21am

He's not giving her a pardon; nor is he going to tell the FBI to stop investigating.

About the only thing he's not doing is appointing a special Prosecutor. But if something more surfaces... that may end up happening.

Exactly. Plus now the media will say "But YOU SAID you were going to prosecute Hillary!" Keeping that whole subject out there in the media.

I really hope you are right, Cyber. When you drain a swamp, you have to drain all of it, or you still put up with mosquitos biting you.

Just like the wall thing. Did you see the picture of his DHS guy carrying the clipboard that, when zoomed in, you could see that they have a plan for a "rapid build" of 2000 miles of wall on the border, to meld with the existing wall portions. That was just yesterday. Pretty much the media is like "well shit."

Mike Mercury 11-22-2016 12:16pm

Trump is savy. He may be saying this to make Obama really look bad (if O'turd issues Hillary a pardon).

In some respects, it would be a strange sort of positive if Obama pardoned Hilliary before he left office. For one thing, people who are innocent don't need pardons. That's almost as good as an admission of guilt on Hillary's part, which we know we're never going to see. Hilliary's media machine painted all the accusations as Republican muck-raking but a pardon from Obama will lend legitimacy to charges that she's thoroughly corrupt. Also, it would be a big stain on Obama's legacy. He's supported Hilliary but mostly avoided getting caught in the gears over her corruption. Issuing a pardon, however, implies that he knows there is something to pardon and basically makes him an accessory to that corruption. He becomes the President who knowingly supported, and covered for, a corrupt candidate for the country's highest office. It also supports Trump's comments regarding the system being corrupted and self-interested parties scratching each other's backs in the name of keeping themselves in power.

Just what I was thinking. Now he can turn on 'em and ask them if they want him to pursue it!

Aerovette 11-22-2016 3:20pm

He needs to do it. There is a generation in the streets that does not understand repercussions for bad behavior. They are the "time out" crowd, the "participation award winners". They kill without having any sense of what real right and wrong is. They steal without understanding what loss is. Letting her get away with her actions simply tells this generation, that you can do what you want, treat people how you want, even cost lives, and come within inches of being president. She needs to be made an example.

Cybercowboy 11-23-2016 10:23am

And this is what the law says about Presidential pardons.

The leading Supreme Court case is Ex parte Garland (1867). Justice Stephen J. Field, writing for the Court in a 5-4 decision, held that the President's pardoning power is ''unlimited,'' and ''It extends to every offense known to the law, and may be exercised at any time after its commission, either before legal proceedings are taken, or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment.''

Obama could easily still pardon Hillary. Just FYI.

DAB 11-23-2016 10:31am

had the same thought. Trump wants to clean up the 'to do' list, take this off it, and by extension, if Barry grants her a pardon, it makes her look guilty while Trump has said no case will be pursued. so it looks bad on Barry's record too.

and once Trump is in office, if more info comes up, then the FBI and DOJ have cause to file charges against an unpardoned Hillary.

"well, we had planned to let this case go away so we can Make America Great Again, but these new revelations demand their day in court."

Keep in mind that a president can only grant pardons for federal offenses. There would be nothing stopping a state Attorney General from pursuing a case.

On an unrelated note, is anyone else familiar with the Arkansas AG? :leaving:

Interesting. I heard that the possibility of pardoning Snowden was actually an impossibility because there have been no legal proceedings. That report had to be incorrect.

Exactly. Trump is playing it smart. And it's smart to kick that can down the road for now. Just wait and let the FBI do it's job. In the meantime he can throw an olive branch to the liberals to placate them, and have time to work on more important items, such as the economy. A rising economy will gain him a lot of ground.
If the FBI drops the investigation; then so be it, he can say let it go or assign a special prosecutor. If the FBI indicts, then she stuck her own head in the noose, and he has fulfilled the campaign promise while at the same time not directly going after her.

A point that seems to have been missed.

At this time, DJT has not officially received the reins of power.

There will be plenty of time to deal with HRC after 20 JAN 17.

It should also be noted, the President does NOT prosecute. That is and should be left to DOJ and the FBI. Under the new administration, I suspect we'll see things move ahead, as they should.

Let's all wait until DJT is in the BIG chair. There's plenty of things that will require attention.

BTW: Let's look at that list.

28 Things Donald Trump Promises to Do as President - Breitbart

Here is the list of the “Contract with the American Voter” policies detailed by Trump: (Oct 2016)

Propose a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress

Institute a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce through attrition (exempting military, public safety, and public health)

Require for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated.

Institute a five year-ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service

Create a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.

Institute a complete ban on foreign lobbyists raising money for American elections.

Announce intention to renegotiate NAFTA or withdraw from the deal under Article 2205.

Announce withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Direct Secretary of the Treasury to label China a currency manipulator.

Direct the Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative to identify all foreign trading abuses that unfairly impact American workers and direct them to use every tool under American and international law to end those abuses immediately.

Lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars’ worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal.

Lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward.

Cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs and use the money to fix America’s water and environmental infrastructure.
Cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama.

Begin the process of selecting a replacement for Justice Scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list, who will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Cancel all federal funding to Sanctuary Cities.

Begin removing the more than 2 million criminal illegal immigrants from the country and cancel visas to foreign countries that won’t take them back.

Suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur. All vetting of people coming into our country will be considered extreme vetting.

Work with Congress on a Middle Class Tax Relief And Simplification Act.An economic plan designed to grow the economy 4% per year and create at least 25 million new jobs through massive tax reduction and simplification, in combination with trade reform, regulatory relief, and lifting the restrictions on American energy. The largest tax reductions are for the middle class. A middle-class family with 2 children will get a 35% tax cut. The current number of brackets will be reduced from 7 to 3, and tax forms will likewise be greatly simplified. The business rate will be lowered from 35 to 15 percent, and the trillions of dollars of American corporate money overseas can now be brought back at a 10 percent rate.

Work with Congress on a End The Offshoring ActEstablishes tariffs to discourage companies from laying off their workers in order to relocate in other countries and ship their products back to the U.S. tax-free.

Work with Congress on a American Energy & Infrastructure ActLeverages public-private partnerships, and private investments through tax incentives, to spur $1 trillion in infrastructure investment over 10 years. It is revenue neutral.

Work with Congress on a School Choice And Education Opportunity ActRedirects education dollars to gives parents the right to send their kid to the public, private, charter, magnet, religious or home school of their choice. Ends common core, brings education supervision to local communities. It expands vocational and technical education, and make 2 and 4-year college more affordable.

Work with Congress on a Repeal and Replace Obamacare ActFully repeals Obamacare and replaces it with Health Savings Accounts, the ability to purchase health insurance across state lines, and lets states manage Medicaid funds. Reforms will also include cutting the red tape at the FDA: there are over 4,000 drugs awaiting approval, and we especially want to speed the approval of life-saving medications.

Work with Congress on a Affordable Childcare and Eldercare Act.Allows Americans to deduct childcare and elder care from their taxes, incentivizes employers to provide on-side childcare services, and creates tax-free Dependent Care Savings Accounts for both young and elderly dependents, with matching contributions for low-income families.

Work with Congress on an End Illegal Immigration ActFully-funds the construction of a wall on our southern border with the full understanding that the country Mexico will be reimbursing the United States for the full cost of such wall; establishes a 2-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering the U.S. after a previous deportation, and a 5-year mandatory minimum for illegally re-entering for those with felony convictions, multiple misdemeanor convictions or two or more prior deportations; also reforms visa rules to enhance penalties for overstaying and to ensure open jobs are offered to American workers first.

Work with Congress on a Restoring Community Safety Act.Reduces surging crime, drugs and violence by creating a Task Force On Violent Crime and increasing funding for programs that train and assist local police; increases resources for federal law enforcement agencies and federal prosecutors to dismantle criminal gangs and put violent offenders behind bars.

Work with Congress on a Restoring National Security Act.Rebuilds our military by eliminating the defense sequester and expanding military investment; provides Veterans with the ability to receive public VA treatment or attend the private doctor of their choice; protects our vital infrastructure from cyber-attack; establishes new screening procedures for immigration to ensure those who are admitted to our country support our people and our values

Work with Congress on a Clean up Corruption in Washington Act.Enacts new ethics reforms to Drain the Swamp and reduce the corrupting influence of special interests on our politics.

Funny you should ask...I consider her a friend, got to meet her a lot when I worked at the state capitol.:leaving:
I suspect she will wind up in Trump's administration somewhere, she did a lot of campaigning and supported him heavily, so she likely won't be in the AG position after January...

Quite the shitstorm over on reddit today. Seems that reddit CEO Steve Huffman (/u/spez) edited user comments in /r/The_Donald (changing their database directly) because he was having a little conniption fit. Thing is, what he did now offers direct evidence that anything posted on reddit can be altered at a later date by reddit admins and therefore nothing posted there can be used as evidence in a legal proceeding. People have lost their jobs, have gotten into major legal trouble, etc when they get doxxed by reddit due to some legal authority requesting reddit give them their IP logs and user information. But now? A real problem now. A concerned moderator leaked the moderator chat log where they were discussing the ramifications of this and how they are going to "deal" with The_Donald (TD), and a lot of them just want to ban it outright. They are terrified of the power and reach that subreddit has, they hate it when it makes it to the front page of reddit even though they have changed their algorithms to make it difficult for popular posts on TD to reach the front page.

Highly entertaining stuff. I think they are just a few days from banning us all. They are talking even stripping all our comments out from their database, removing everything. Incredible.
