SAN DIEGO — Last week, the U.S. chief of naval operations denied a request for clemency and upheld a military jury's sentence that will reduce the rank of a decorated Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher, who was convicted of posing with a dead Islamic State captive in Iraq in 2017.

On Monday, the Navy Times reported that the president of the United States restored Gallagher's rank to Chief Petty Officer.

A military jury acquitted Gallagher this summer of murder for the death of the wounded captive, attempted murder in the shootings of unarmed Iraqi civilians and other charges during his deployment to Mosul, Iraq.

He was convicted of the single count of posing with the casualty — dealing a major blow to one of the Navy's most high-profile war crimes cases.

The case was championed by President Donald Trump, who had intervened to move Gallagher out of the brig and congratulated him in a tweet after he was acquitted of murder.

President Trump did the right thing. Reminds of a incident back in 62 when President Kennedy went to Fort Bragg to review the Green Beret 5th Special Forces group. The Army brass had told the group that the green beret would not be their head gear. A Green Beret Colonel decided to let the men wear the green beret. When Kennedy saw this he liked and told the Army brass this will be their head gear.:cert:

I think it was in "Apocalypse Now" when Martin Sheen said something like, "charging people with murder in Vietnam, was like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500". We send people there to kill the enemy. Hell, we fire bombed Dresden Germany during WWII, and that was mostly civilians. The A bombs, well, civilians there too, and it ended the war. People keep forgetting that war is a nasty business. We show up to kill people and break shit.:seasix:

The mention SEAL is a disgrace to the uniform. Very low class to pose a picture with a dead body.
