Dig this. Crazy enough to work?
I got a call a couple weeks ago from an assisted living joint. They asked if I could produce a streaming video music show for cooped up residents. Of course I can. Where it gets interesting is that they have seven locations.
Each location would pay a few hundred a month. Under the heading of “memory care”. It seems that hearing music from your youth heals the mind and improves memory. We play 30’s, 40’s, early 50’s music. I came up with the idea to feature a few residents on each program by telling their story. I think we can get $2,500 for an hour of music if all seven locations chip in. But here is where it gets interesting. There are about ten thousand assisted living places in Texas alone. Many have dozens of locations under one holding company. What if 20 locations paid $400 each for a monthly program? That’s $8k for a one hour show. Cost is about $2k-$3k. Then what if you had 10 clients? Theoretically you could gross $40k-$80k a month doing about ten hours of music. Even half that would be awesome. The residents are really hurting from isolation. This could do a lot of good for people. Including me. |

Sounds neat, Pete.

Sounds like a plan! My grandmother:sadangel: had dementia/Alzheimer’s. We would walk with her to the singings held each month at the nursing home. She would sing along, dance(she really could dance) know every word and not miss a beat.

Great idea. Not only will it help out your pocket but will greatly enrich the lives of the folks in the retirement homes. :seasix:

I think it’s going to be this way for a long time. I’d much rather go there and play. |

I did a session tonight where they wanted a sound that was a combination of Rhodes and Santana. I’m like WTF. made $250 in half an hour. Used the tele. They looked at me like I was nuts. Until they heard it. |

GRAND idea/concept man......BUTTTTT just one cautionary......
most/many of nursing home folks can't hear shit.....most of them women, and have to shout at them .....AND like my mother, not recognize sis or me for the last 5-6 years in one......much less know much music..... too boot my wife here looked after her mother for some ten years here in this house.....deaf as a stone, and now her aunt is the same way.....shout at her to make any communication..... but I still admire the concept man......good luck..... :seasix::hurray::dance: |
I think that will work well. In response to Gene's mention of hearing loss, the retirement home could provide headsets for those with hearing impairment so not everyone gets blasted out.

Sounds great!
You could make it interesting and raise the rate a little with the rate increase going towards a charity of your choosing. For instance $30 for each show will go towards a cure for Alzheimers. Doubt they'll say no and you'll line your pockets while helping a noble cause. :cert: |

Headsets would work too. |
