So Eric Cantor is an asshole.

On December 7, 2011, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor indefinitely postponed a scheduled markup of the legislation. The bill currently has 235 co-sponsors- 153 Democrats and 82 Republicans. A bill needs 218 votes for passage by the House of Representatives.

Government Reform

This bill had enough support and co-sponsors to PASS had it finished going through the process and gone to voting, but Eric Cantor prevented any voting to occur by indefinitely postponing it.

This should be front page. How are we allowing him to override the majority of congress? Blockading the democratic process. We should be absolutely outraged at this. This should be the headline across all media.

Kinda like the 1000 day anniversary of the Senate's last passage of a federal budget?

Chris Fowler 01-25-2012 4:38pm

A bill that's been around for six years in one form or another is suddenly so important that someone blocking it because it's too weak is now a desperate situation?

Chris Fowler 01-25-2012 4:39pm

Oh...and Joe screaming about someone blocking the democratic process in a legal manner is plain funny.

Calm down, Joe.

It's not like he and a bunch of Republicans fled the state to avoid a vote on an issue that would likely have an outcome they wouldn't like.

Sea Six 02-09-2012 4:55pm

Ok.

When I first posted in this thread, I was still a freakin' neocon.

I have now seen the light, and have changed my political stance to that of a radical Progressive Liberal. I feel inclined to express my new opinion on the subject.

What we need is to get another bunch of organizations like Acorn (last I heard, they had splintered into about 30 new and supposedly different organizations) and get them to handle voter registration (Democrats only, please) and perhaps some *cough* of our older (ahem) residents... those say, who would fall around around 114 to 115 years of age... *wink* ... to fill out some absentee ballots. Let's take back the house and Senate, in the supermajority sense of the word.

Next, we cram more legislation down the throats of Americans because we know what's best. We actually trust some unknown persons to draft their ideas of what's best, because we know we can't be bothered to read the bills before we pass them so we can see what's in it.

That's what I think needs to happen.

How'm I doing, Phil?

:waiting:

Seriously... when you copy and paste something directly from somebody else rather than taking the time to write something on your own, cite the source. It really isn't that hard. I think they teach it in about the 4th grade.

Have no fear. There is no failing. The smart kids will give you some of their test points.

Just two hours ago, the House of Representatives passed the Stock Act, a measure to curb insider trading by lawmakers and some federal officials. The bill Congress voted on today, however, is different than the legislation that passed out of the Senate last week.

Last week, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) attached a strong transparency amendment to the Stock Act that requires political intelligence firms to register as lobbying firms. The political intelligence industry consists of lobbyists and other K Street consultants who mine Congress for inside information to then sell to Wall Street speculators. Grassley’s modest amendment simply required these firms to register as any other lobbying interest — but Wall Street prefers secrecy. As the New York Times reported, the big banks and hedge funds mobilized quickly over the last few days to strip this provision. And, it turns out that House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), who managed the Stock Act’s vote today, actually removed Grassley’s amendment only 24 hours before the vote. See a screen shot of the deletion below:

I apologize for the ambiguity in my wording. I did indeed mean that grade distribution and the end of grade class warfare would solve the problem.

Sea Six 02-10-2012 3:55pm

Redistribution of grades is only fair. The system is stacked against minorities, and that's the only reason they don't score so high.

Right, Phil?

How'm I doing, Mentor? You haven't touched base with me (I be your pardon!) in several days. I need some encouragement with my transition to radical Marxist Progressive Liberalism.
