Well lets try this here because it looks like the monthly contest is not going to work any more. Also a little story about it would be nice.:seasix:

This is one of 3 "Old Salts" that we have sitting on our steps ......after Super Storm Sandy came through and under our home and did over $250,000.00 of damage......they were still there.
I wish they could talk ......the damage that was done still amazes me and I have come up with a few scenarios how it happened in here.

These guys were messing around down at the back of our yard the other morning. There were 4, but I couldn't get all of them in one picture. I'm guessing that they're young, since they were jumping on each other, showing their teeth, etc. Also, I think their legs develop black fur as they get older?

What the heck, I'll post another one... just finished processing this (well finished for now... it has some problems). Finally broke down and bought a small refractor telescope for imaging stars, nebulae, galaxies, etc. First trip out and my focus wasn't perfect so stars aren't as sharp as the scope is capable of.

The field of view is about what you would expect from a 540mm camera lens on a full frame camera.

What is it?

The Lagoon and Trifid nebulae are in the Sagittarius arm of the the Milky Way galaxy. If you find a dark enough location, you can see them with the naked eye and they are easily seen with binoculars. The Trifid nebula is on the left side in this photo. This section of the Milky Way is visible from Spring into the late part of Fall.

Not really. She and I both know it and when we are in the Philippines, we still stay there with her family at their house.

It is, but their house is much nicer since I built them a new house. They have running water, toilet, and a shower there now. It is nice to be able to take a shower inside and not in the street with everyone watching.

i'm guessing a house there, with running water, toilet, and shower, costs somewhat less than a similar one here! :slap:

That was by choice, though. Daycare wasn't optional for us with the kids and, if I had to guess, not for Stangkiller, either.

We were very blessed that my career allowed for me to have my wife take 10 years off to raise our child, and as an added bonus, dad worked from home. Our daughter was immersed with both parents involved from day 1. :yesnod: The kid that you have all watched grow for the past 13 years is a byproduct of that luxury. I wish everyone had the opportunity to do that.

We are fortunate enough that it was up to my Wife, we would have been fine had she wanted to stay home, but I left that choice up to her. For the time being she's opted to go back to work, we're fortunate enough her take home more than covers the day care. Now if we have a second one, I'm not sure if I can or even want to foot that $3,200 daycare bill :banghead: perhaps a nanny? Time will tell.

It gets progressively less expensive as they get older but, for the couple years that both our kids were in preschool, it was just about $2K per month. The wife grew weary of me introducing our kids as "my Porsche payment" and made me start using their names.

Steven Aghakhani took delivery of his new racing-bred Lamborghini last Thursday after his father surprised him with it at Lamborghini Beverly Hills.

If you think Aghakhani is just some spoiled rich kid who wanted the coolest car Lamborghini currently offers, you're sorely mistaken. According to the Los Angeles Times, the 14-year-old has been racing cars for half his life. He started racing go-karts at age 7, worked his way up to the NASA Pro Series Southern California Regional Championship, and is training to eventually race in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. He also enjoys hitting 200 mph whenever he can.

The new Huracan Super Trofeo Evo was built by Lamborghini Squadra Corse, with help from racing chassis builder Dallara Engineering. It's essentially a new body for the already-potent Huracan Super Trofeo, but the carbon fiber kit improves aerodynamics and adds plenty of downforce.

The Evo is powered by a racing-tuned version of the Huracan's 5.2-liter V-10, pumping out 620-horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. It also includes an X-Trac six-speed sequential transmission, Ohlins dampers, and MOTEC electrical components.

Aghakhani will get some quality seat time in his new Lambo when he takes to the track with his team Steven Racing in the spring.

My youngest is 13 now. I don't remember how much his daycare was, but it wasn't as much what you guys quoted. Then again, it was 12-13 years ago when he started. Yes, it got less over time.

My oldest son went to private school through grade 8, then to high school in a different school district. His primary education cost me well over $120,000. :ack:

Cost for daycare can vary depending on where you live (no surprise) but $50 per day per kid seemed to be the going rate when we were looking. Some were more and very few were less. It was painful to write that check every month but, in the long run, a drop in the bucket compared to what either of us leaving the workforce (even temporarily) would cost. That's in addition to tossing all the work and schooling to get to that point.

Private school didn't interest us. Generally, it comes with some religious angle and that is a nonstarter. It's also worth noting that the public schools in this area are very good; vastly better than where I went growing up. When my kids get to high school, they can IB, AP, and Honors to their heart's content. We're fortunate that we have better-than-average schools in a better-than-average district.

Well, here’s a non-bird shot. I traded in my 2012 Tahoe a few weeks ago and scored this 2018 LS. The ‘12 was an LTZ which had just about every option available. To replace it was going to cost me $75k which I’m just not willing to spend. Yeah, black wasn’t my first choice but so it goes.

YUP, damn close, and on some photo site years ago, we found damn nearly the same shot...(but my wife's is better :seasix: ) on a print for sale wanted like 100 bux......pretty close.....

catching the sun angles, reflections, interesting to find the same essential pix though.....it is obviously a foot bridge.....

taken on the last time I/We vacationed with my oldest buddy from HS yet.....

he was only 68 when he passed....never said a word, found out some 6-8 months later after emails and phone calls went unanswered.....called around and finally found the local paper, and sure enough......pix and named wife and 2 daughters......both of which are TCU grads top of class in finance/accounting one of which was in NYC for some top flight firm....both of then quitting Arthur Anderson when that ENRON thing was about to break....they heard the internal memos and found other jobs.....them kids far smarter than average ......

Lilly was a Viet Nam nursing shortage import from Scotland to a local FW Tejas hospital.....and so we all met up in a garden apt. complex.....I broke up with my g/f and so went back to DC region....he went to work at a Miller Brew plant off the freeway outta FW...3 miles from his house that he bought brand new and the builder helped him finance it..... on a hillside like mine here.....

He and I met being fellow geeks on the screwal bus....he had a Heathkit Oscilloscope with him and I about went ape shit to see another kid who knew WTF it even WAS, let alone taking it to the ham radio club.....he was 2 years younger than me.....

Last I saw his house, it looked like a CIA/NSA/DIA/NASA watch station...more antennas then they had.....

About the second shot. I posted this on a FB wildlife page and a woman responded with the eye roll smiley and made the statement; Come on people that's a puppet. You can clearly see the persons arm.

Think that was Knob Creek 120 Single Cask. Don't recall the cigar. Was some time ago and I'm really not a cigar smoker. Just made for a cool pic. :D

Taken about six hours ago. If I had to estimate based on past experience I'd say Herm here is 14-15 weeks old.

This is old... taken in 2009 when I'd just gotten my first decent digital camera, a Canon 50d. I didn't get out to shoot fireworks last year so did a quick re-edit. Missed out this year too, so will just post the oldie.

So, I'm at LAX killin' time. I start taking a few pics with my super duper, no high quality cell phone.. It just so happens the first plane is a PAL, Philippine Airlines. :D

On the 405 some afternoon ~1600 aka 4pm. I encountered a "WADISIT". Used to be a VW of some sort, iirc.
