I've been pretty busy!

The economy is *barely* picking up in the rental apts and houses market.

Every month is just barely perceptibly better than the one before.

Right now I only have four vacancies. That's just awesome.

How about you? I haven't hung out in the last couple of bar threads lately. I hope to change that.

I'm just doing the school thing and started to work out feverishly getting ready for Spring. Hitting the gym daily since Spring break...hoping to get back in my size 8's being 5'7 the lowest healthy size i think I can go back to is 7 just thanking god...its not too far to get there :D

Looking into getting my '85 on the road soon its been sleeping for 3 yrs.

Sounds good. I think I'm going to start walking a couple of miles in the mornings. Work up to doing some free weights. I need to do something.

He has written much on the subject of the use of force. He's kind of a guru for cops and armed citizens.

The sheepdog reference comes from a speech he gave a graduating class of cadets (not sure of the school).

He postulates that there are sheep and wolves. The sheep don't really want to hurt one another, and the vast majority of the population are sheep. The only time violence becomes an issue is when the wolves come into the picture (those who do not meld themselves into society, but instead prey on lawful citizens).

And then there are the sheepdogs. The sheepdogs must never attack the sheep... and it isn't in their nature to do so. Their jobs are to keep a watchful eye out for the wolves, and when necessary, resort to violent means in order to keep the peace. The sheepdogs, to the sheep, don't really fit in. They appear to the sheep in many ways to be a lot like the wolves that they despise for their violent ways. Yet they all live together in a fragile balance.

Or something like that. When I first heard the story, it made a lot of sense to me. At least, it helped explain why the public just by and large never really accepts me as a LEO. I'm needed, necessary... but only at times they deem it to be so. When I became a cop, all of my cop friends told me that my other friends would begin to treat and regard me differently. I thought they were full of :bs:... but it turned out that they were about 95% right. Only a few are still my friends. Those are my lifelong friends.

And it is definitely comforting to know that the VAST majority of people out there are for the most part law abiding citizens. At least, they aren't out to prey on their fellow denizens of the world. They just want to be free to earn their own keep.

Years ago my dads office was observing that they had too many upper level staff (chiefs), and not enough lower paid staff (Indians). Boss thought they should lose some chiefs. Dad suggested they hire more Indians to bring the ratio back in balance.

We can't all be leaders, someone has to do the crap jobs.

Later this year I'll pursue a concealed carry permit. Open carry is ok here. A colt commander is fairly big.

I've never been a fan of open carry for several reasons, although I am very much opposed to the banning of it just because it in itself is an infringement to our right to keep and bear arms.

Please do get your carry permit. Practice often and carry often. Learn as much as you can about the use of deadly force in your state. This will require more courses than the basic pistol shooting courses.

Post-whoring is not for amateurs.

Any recommendations on a carry pistol?

Every gun is a tradeoff. There are advantages you give up by choosing to carry any one gun. For example, semiautomatics have some definite advantages over revolvers, and revolvers have some definite advantages over semiautomatics.

The important thing is to carry the gun and ammo which you have proven to yourself to be reliable, in an effective caliber, which you can conceal, which you are willing to carry often, and which you can shoot accurately.

Personal taste and choice is going to answer most of those questions for you. Your job is to go out there with a good instructor or knowledgable buddy, who has lots and lots of guns you can shoot, and allow you to experiment and find those answers yourself.

I like the Kahr in any caliber.

Like my commander. Just haven't experimented carrying it. Also have 92F. .380 seems a little small to me.

For personal protection, a .380 is *probably* good enough.

I just personally feel that if you are going to carry a .380, unless recoil is an issue that for you is just insurmountable even with training and practice, there are lots of other guns in very nearly the same size package in even better calibers. That fact in and of itself is a good reason to carry something bigger than a .380 ACP.

You just never know when you might find yourself in one of those few self-defensive encounters where a .380 just isn't going to cut it.

I know for a fact that 1911fool has tons of experience, probably lots more that I do. I'd carefully consider what he has to say on the topic.
