Tilt Rebuild
I've been a member on CF since it started or a little after. I stayed in the C1/C2 section for years until I sold my cars that I restored. I remember all the old members and what a great section it was. Corvette or just old car/truck related anything topics. I don't even or have visited the site in years.
Anyway, just for some info. I'm rebuilding the tilt in my C10. The dreaded loose bolt syndrome. I was google some info the other day and Jim Shea had made post over at CF and I didn't realize he was the Saginaw engineer for the columns they used in everything (even newer Jeeps, etc..) A couple pics. The only problem I'm having is compressing the lock plate and spring back down. I don't know, if I didn't have it aligned properly and know it only fits one way. I hate the open type upper bearing! It falls apart new or old! https://i.imgur.com/QpqFk1Y.jpg https://i.imgur.com/mvg1k8D.jpg |
There's a tool for compressing the spring and lock plate while you remove or install the retaining clip. Makes it a breeze:
