Taking a gamble that I will be OK in 3 wks. :seasix:

Registration deadline was today. $20.00 per person x 8200...:leaving: Serious money in these national events. Plus the public tickets. But, they do have to lease the land, water, hay, port-a-johns, etc...all kinds of permits from the local gov.

The event only supplies some firewood, bedding straw, and water. We sleep in a period A-frame tents and cook over a fire pit. Some people don't even bother with the tent. They throw a blanket on the ground and eat out of their haversack - cheese, crackers, etc...for 3 days. Serious. It depends on how authentic you want to be. When the armies were on campaign (not winter qtrs.,etc) they didn't carry tents. You had a blanket roll - if you have seen pics of what looks like a blanket wrapped diagonally across the torso. They were usually issued 3 days. rations - hardtack(like a very hard saltine cracker) and some salt pork. Most usually ate it all up their first meal. Then starved or scavenged for more food. Brogans are going to kill my ankle. I just know it.

I'll send you my cell #. With that large a crowd. We would have to decide on a specific spot after the battle. I'll scope the area out on Fri. Honestly, it is a once in a lifetime event to participate in or view. You will never have another opportunity to see that many reenactors on the field and I've lost track of the number of artillery pieces, calvary, etc...I highly recommend not missing it. :seasix:

Never got into black powder but the guy who was the president of the company I worked for back in PA was really into it and had an amazing collection. He had a couple of flintlocks made in Lancaster Count PA from the 1700s and a total over 50 black powder rifles.

Talked to the wife- we are good for any day. Which day looks like the best for watching a battle ?

FasterTraffic 05-31-2013 8:19pm

Will Skia be participating? Will he be playing J. Johnston Pettigrew?

Truck Guy 05-31-2013 8:25pm

:seasix: That's going to be a real experience.

Been to Gettysburg at least 5 times and it never fails to leave me with goosebumps. :yesnod:

BTW, good luck this time  :D

At Skia's age, this is the only character left for him to play
