Anyone watching the Ken Burns Vietnam Documentary?
Part one was on last night. It showed the history of the region and what led up to our involvement. Part two is tonight.
I thought it was pretty good and informative. There was much about the history of the conflict I was not aware of, such as the fact that Ho Chi Minh used over 70 different aliases in his lifetime. |
Missed it. Damn...

Cliffs from last night...The French spent 100 years making a mess over there, and for some reason we felt obligated to clean it up. |

I'll try to DVR them so that I can watch both in sequence. :seasix: What channel was is on ? |

"Part 1 of "The Vietnam War" from Ken Burns and Lynn Novick had a 4.6 rating Sunday night on WNED-TV, the local PBS affiliate. That's a very impressive number for a PBS program. If you missed the terrific opening episode of the 18-hour series, it is being repeated at midnight tonight. Each episode is being repeated the next day at midnight. Part 2 airs tonight in prime time." Bills game scores in local ratings; Emmys, 'The Vietnam War' do well - The Buffalo News |

I'll ask the kids to get the DVD set for me for XMAS. :seasix: |
For all the Ken Burns fans, do a little research before you knight that dude.

It's also available via web stream through the PBS app. That's how I watched it. You can also watch it on the pbs.org website.

Very good article here which praises Ken Burns' documentary skills, while taking issues with some of the conclusions drawn in the documentary.

I watched the first episode. My wife is Vietnamese and I have been able to talk to people who lived in Vietnam in the 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's and they have told me what it was like during that time. in fact my wife's family moved from the North to the South in 54 and they are catholic. My wife's dad was in Arvin and rose to the rank of major. He was killed in battle in 66. My wife and her family was able to leave in 89 to come to this country.

Missed #1, but saw #2 + 3.
Brought back memories. Kudos to PBS for uninterrupted presentation. |

That's neither an endorsement of the former or condemnation of the latter. |
