You surely must understand my surprise...

Newly-minted Alabama Sen. Doug Jones — the Democrat who defeated Roy Moore last week to win the seat vacated when Jeff Sessions became Attorney General — isn't even seated yet and he's already doling out advice to his Congressional colleagues:

Take it easy on Trump.

On CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning, Doug Jones was asked what he thought about the sexual harassment allegations leveled at Donald Trump before the election, which appeared again last week in an apparent effort to tie the president in to the "#MeToo movement.

Jones was clear: Democrats aren't going to win that battle and need to move on.

"Those allegations were made before the election, and so people had an opportunity to judge before that election," he said. "I think we need to move on and not get distracted by those issues. Let's get on with the real issues that are facing people of this country right now, and I don't think that the President ought to resign at this point. We'll see how things go. But certainly those allegations are not new, and he was elected with those allegations front and center."

I'll have to digest this...but my first thought is, "What's he up to? Sounds much too sane coming from a Democrat...."

ALL THOSE GUYS need to tread lightly. They are all potential targets.

He will vote against MAGA. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. Having said that, I appreciate that he is taking the polite, high road. Trump extended the courtesy of calling to congratulate him, and Doug is returning that perfunctory courtesy.

This :iagree:
I'm sure there are tons of elected officials and people in positions of authority that are sweating bullets right now. They all just want this whole thing to die down

i said in the other thread, i think, that after listening to his press conference last week, like his policies or side of the aisle he's on not withstanding, we need more politicians with an open mind like he seems to have. talk is cheap, we'll see how he gets corrupted once he gets to dc.

No way. This is a huge boon for escort services now that power players can't risk flashing their junk to their female subordinates willy nilly.

This guy realizes that the voters in Alabama are Republicans, and they voted him in because the other guy is probably a pedo. He's pandering to the base, because he knows if he doesn't, he's out and out quickly.

This. He was lucky in his enemies, and he knows it.

A true politician. :yesnod:
If you think that you can play both sides w/o each side knowing it, you'll always get busted by Spence.

:iagree:

When does he have to come up for reelection? I'd think fairly soon.

This is EXACTLY what's going on.

He will tread *very very* lightly so that he will slip the wool over the eyes of every single Republican voter that he can during the next two years.

He and the Dems running the show know that if they can get him re-elected in his first non-special election, they've got the best chance at keeping a dyed in the wool Pelosi/Schumer stooge in the Senate seat.
