My friend Tom is head of maintenance at a local ivy league college. He asked me about making a different design shower drain grate as they have a hair problem with the OEM supplied grates.
The OEM have long curved slots and it allows any hair to go down the drain. It then collects at every bend and clogs quickly.
At work, we came up with a different design which they approved. Instead of long slots, the new design is squares. That won't allow the hair to go down the drain ( forcing the students to take care of it )
They got the new drains a few days ago and started to install them as the shower drains were clogging again.
Top pic is the drains after being cut on the waterjet. They are just under 3/16" thick stainless steel and about 4-3/4" in diameter.
The second pic is the auger after clearing ONE shower drain. :ack:
That is what went down the drain since September :willy:
