August Photo Contest

The subject of this month's contest is something cool or unique in or around where you live. The subject could be architectural, landscape, cityscape, a monument, business, sign, etc. Maybe something you would want a visitor to your area to see.

No Photoshop composites but Photoshop or other editing software adjustments are fine. HDR or panorama shots ok.

Let's make August 30 at 7p Central the cutoff for submissions. This should give us a few days for a poll and for the winner to start the next context before the Labor day weekend.

Go take some photos!

EDIT 8/8: Let's revert back to using photos taken during this month's contest.

EDIT 8/25 - As mentioned in my other post...

As with last month we are low on entries with just a few days left.

Let's relax the rules again and see if that helps participation.

Just post up a good photo you have taken. Let's see where this goes.

EDIT: 8/30 - Those who posted multiple shots... please edit your post to indicate which shot you want to submit for the contest. Thanks -

I had to open up last month to no date restriction due to lack of entries.

This photo was taken at Ft. Griffin, an 1800s era fort west of Ft. Worth a couple hours. It's far enough away from major cities to have very little light pollution and has become a popular location for astronomers and nighttime photo buffs to visit. Very cool and interesting place. Note the yellow/orange glow on the horizon is some light pollution from a small town about 30 miles away.

This likely won't by my submission unless I get very lazy... I have another shot in mind but thought I would post this to get some traffic in the thread.

These are little stacks of rocks visitors create along the hike out to "Magnetic Rock" not far from Gunflint Lake MN. They do this in lieu of more permanent graffiti. I thought the little stacks looked pretty cool sitting around here and there.

Okay, as with last month we are low on entries with just a few days left.

Let's relax the rules again and see if that helps participation.

Just post up a good photo you have taken. Let's see where this goes.

I'll edit the 'rules post' above to reflect this.

My favorite picture of all time. For those of you who know my daughter, you'll quickly realize how old this picture is.

Craig, umm, she has a lee-zard in her hair.

And yes, I bet you think the time has flown by too.

You know how much of a tomboy she is, so the fact that she was 100% comfortable with this creature running all over her body is a testament to her demeanor. I must have gone inside the house 3-4 times to get other lenses, while this little bugger just sat there.

Most little girls would freak out...not G!

This is Milford's Irish Round Tower, it is the only one like it in the US.
It is in my local cemetery and was commissioned by the priests 100 years ago as a tribute to the Irish immigrants.
