Holy shit, just dodged a bullet

For most of this afternoon we could smell a very faint smell like burning metal. Walked all round trying to find the source but couldn’t pin it down. So I decided to watch some TV. After about 30 minutes all of a sudden the screen gets all streaky and I see sparks coming out the back and a flame jumps up. I jumped up and moved the TV enough that I could see the back. Flames coming from where the power cord plugs into the TV. Pulled the cord out of the TV and then the other end out of the power strip it was plugged into.
We have smoke detectors but I would hate to think how far along that might have gotten before they went off. I guess it’s off to BB tomorrow for a new Tv.
This one was a Panasonic Viera, 50” plasma and was about 12 years old.

Aero set it up for ya?

you were lucky that you were there!

while smoke detector would have most likely woke ya up, if you were out of town; you could have picked up a new house and started life over :leaving:

BTW - Steeb has an extra room

Pro tip: Slice the insulation every few inches so the electricity doesn't build up pressure and the extra can be released into the atmosphere. Your power cord was over pressurized.
