Shadow Box Season For Me
2 Attachment(s)
During the cold wx season, I hunker down a bit from outside activities and start up my shadow box building, no charge to recipient or family except for material cost. They are well received and it's my pleasure to complete them.

A worthwhile task duing the cold months for sure.
My Marine Corp veteran Dad's shadow box has the flag from his coffin; a bit of a funny story as I was returning to Florida from his funeral in Norfolk, the TSA guys snatched me aside rather abruptly becuase I had tired to pass ammunition though their scanners. WTF ? I did not know and neither did they that they put the expended shell casings from the 21 gun salute INSIDE the folded American flag. After a bit a youngish Marine veteran turned TSA agent came up and straightened it out and even took a few minutes to discuss my Dad's service history in China during the Chiang kai-shek era.. |
Thank you again for the shadow box you made for me. It hangs proudly in my home office

Very nice, Norm. Is that cherry?

I am about to make one for my dad, any tips on how deep it should be and what do you use for the backing material to accept things like pins?

I used to do that, basically build from scratch but now instead of that, I purchase the shadow boxes from "Medals Of America", a little pricy, but all self contained materials to build. Good luck with project. |
FYI, if doing flags for the box. You can send them to any embassy, historical site and have it officially flown and returned at no cost to you..
My shadow box is somewhat generic, as my FIL did it. Do you ship them? |

Who or what are you referring to? |

I did one for a friend a couple years ago. He was born in Belfast, and a few months before his US Citizenship was going to happen, I sent ione to Irelands US Embassh. Marine LTC made a certificate of raising and lowering flag. Also sent a nice letter congradulating his US Citizenship. For Military people, monuments, and ships like AZ and Missouri were popular in Hawaji. Fleet Reserve in Oahu helped us facilitate it |
