💟Final resto 1968 BB💟

The 68 vette will be coming back home this afternoon.

We have a ton of work to finish on her and we will be asking a load of questions. Posting here instead of the C3 section unless advised otherwise.

Nervous and excited at the same time!

The C3 = best looking Vette ever. :seasix:

The best part about C3 restorations?

American Standard wrenches :hurray:

Premature ejaculation. Post up some pictures.

As someone once said, the waiting is the hardest part.

As soon as she is delivered I’ll post a video showing what we have to work with.

Think we will be tackling the dash/vents/wiring first.

How do you eat an 🐘? That is the saying I keep repeating.

Guessing the dash/console will be the biggest PITA. Gonna knock that out first.

1st thing is to revert back to original steering column. Attachment 98302

77 was what DUB temporarily had in and planed to upgrade to, but mounts weren’t correct so we will sell the 77 column and put in the OG 68.

Ordered correct upper mount off eBay, sand blasted and painted yesterday (no pics of painted mount). Used John Deere Blitz Black. Stuff is super durable and more affordable than the stuff they sell on the regulars. Used it in the engine bay as well.

I've forgotten, is your dash out? How's the wiring harness? It would be the time to replace if it needs it.

Finished a complete interior redo on my 68 SBC Frankenvette, complete with color change from dark saddle to black. Replaced the 75 column with a Flaming River and replaced left dash panel with one that had a hole for the key (everything else was replaced or restored, too). Couldn't justify a '68 column + rebuild for this car. FR column looks original enough to the untrained eye. Keep posting.

Do you have the 68 AIM?

I think I have it saved electronically happy to forward you?

77 is a one year only column. Worth a serious premium over other C3 columns!

I believe that the 77 has many components that are specific to the 77.

Well hope someone wants to buy it. Realizing a shit ton of original parts went MIA some time while DUB had the car or after he died.

Now we can’t figure out how to get the freaking steering column in. Even with the new bracket, the upper bracket is not lining up at all on the right side so no telling how much he changed out!

Cannot even find the upper mount that attaches to the dash. I have the item number form the AIM and cannot find it.

Is there any way to rig up some kind of bracket to make my 68 work with the later upper mounting bracket?

The correct bracket is where the arrow is. This is from someone else’s 68. You can see how much wider the other bracket is.

This is the part we need or need to somehow make the current one work.

I owned a 75. Replaced the steering column with an Ididit column.

75 wasn’t a particularly good year for vettes but I loved that car. No inspections here so nothing stock, a blown small block with hooker headers / side pipes, that would burn the skin off your calves, if you forgot they were there.

Good times.

It’s ALL Out! We are so far in the hole in this, going to get it back together as affordable as possible. I paid DUB to complete the car…. And I have this….

C3C7NIC 03-12-2024 9:22pm

I’ll get a better video tomorrow to see if any of you can clarify what steering parts are compatible with my 68 and what all DUB changed to upgrade to a
77 steering column.

He also planned to put side pipes on so the exhaust
Is all fuqqed up and from the rear end you can see he closed in the exit holes for the exhaust too.

You paid for a full restoration and got that? That’s borderline criminal. Can you go after his estate for compensation?

According to his widow it’s tied up legally and I’m not the only one. 😡 would probably cost more in attorney fees than it’s worth and in NC so I’m fuqqed.
